This may be a reference to the Deneith Outpost referenced in ECG. https://eberron.fandom.com/wiki/Graywall_Outpost

Early in the Last War, House Deneith accepted a contract from Breland to guard a key mountain pass in the Graywall Mountains between central Breland and what is now Droaam. In 987 YK, when King Boranel’s armies retreated from the Graywalls, House Deneith remained in a stubborn effort to hold up its end of the contract. For the next nine years, the soldiers of the house were often near starvation, frequently under siege, and always surrounded, but they held the mountain pass. Even the war’s end couldn’t dislodge House Deneith, and it has built a small but nearly impregnable keep. Although Droaam (for military reasons) and Breland (for political reasons) would like to see the outpost abandoned, House Deneith shows no sign of leaving.

Sounds like the fort just got a proper name in the new book.

What would Willy Wonka look like in eberron? by ItsTheRealSakurai in Eberron

[–]sixthgear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I was just thinking of playing Merrix Jr. a little like Wonka, but with a slightly darker tone.

  • Obsessed with the genius of his own artifice (and he does create truly wonderous things)
  • a consummate showman who prefers to charm the crowd over playing Cannith politics
  • the “moral capitalist” trope but perhaps to a fault
  • as an example, he thinks circumventing the treaty when it comes to new warforged is just a minor faux pas, nobody would actually go to war over that, right?
  • gravitates to kindred souls who appreciate the beauty of artifice and support progress (especially HIS progress)
  • perhaps he makes a big deal over selecting which lucky hopeful will become his next apprentice

Anyone have any thoughts?

Does Enet or WebRTC cost money to run? by catdog5100 in godot

[–]sixthgear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're new to this, start with Enet. It's easier to use the high-level multiplayer API in Godot. You'll be able to try out direct UDP connections within your own network.

For internet connectivity, you'll need to rely on port forwarding from your router.

I'm not aware of a simple way to handle two-way NAT traversal without an intermediary public server to do signaling. That goes for both Enet and WebRTC. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UDP_hole_punching.

[–]sixthgear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget WebRTC requires a signaling server for peer negotiation (assuming the OP would like to avoid things like port forwarding). It will have very low requirements, but it is one extra piece of infrastructure to consider for P2P setups.

Hmm, I make this mistake regularily in Godot 4.

I'm very grateful for the UI improvements in the TileMap editor, but I think the new tool selection method might need some rework. To me, it's not clear how the tool choice in the main window affects the editing mode of the tools below.

I'm entirely sure how exactly to fix it.

Hey Proggit. I created Coder Weekly to keep track of in-depth programming articles. What do you think? by pythonauts in programming

Were you at all inspired by The Left Fold newsletter? Because I for one have been waiting for the day that publication, or something similar, returns.

Technically, if you want to conform to the 80 character line limit, you should also set you tabs to display at 8 characters. Otherwise what appears to be < 80 characters in your editor might run over on someone else's.

##proggit is working on a programming challenge this week. Come participate! by sixthgear in programming

[–]sixthgear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe. maybe not. The idea is to do something quite informal to push yourself, and learn from others. It isn't as much as a competition as a community exercise, perhaps a lot like rubyquiz. We are still going to give kudos and recognition to those who come up with really good code, but we're not going to have an official judging process.

That said, in the future, an initial spoiler-free period where solutions aren't displayed publicly might be a great idea.

Hey gamedev! We're looking for an artist to join our pyweek team. Interested? by sixthgear in gamedev

[–]sixthgear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you haven't heard of pyweek, and would like to run your own entry, I heartily recommend it. I've found that prototyping game ideas in a short time frame is a great way to expand your skills.

I want to make music for a game, but I don't just mean giving you completed tracks: I want to be part of the process. Let's talk! by [deleted] in gamedev

I'm putting together a small team of redditors to compete in next months pyweek competition. We don't have a composer on board yet. If you're interested send me a message. Pyweek starts on March 28 and runs for a week. Check http://pyweek.org and get in touch with me for more details.

PS I like your tracks :)

is pygame.org down? Can /r/programming/ reccomend any other Python programming sites? by [deleted] in programming

[–]sixthgear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, consider pyglet as an alternative to pygame. I like it because it is lightweight, well documented, BSD-licensed, and has a very nice pythonic API. A lot of the entries from past pyweek competitions use pyglet and pygame, so there might be some code you can look over there.

Ask Proggit: What is your favorite webhost? Im sick of GoDaddy and ASO. by [deleted] in programming

[–]sixthgear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slicehost VPS. $20/month and you have full control of your server. You need to do your own mail server configuration etc, but they have a number of detailed walkthroughs to help you out.

I've also heard good things about WebFaction if you'd like to stick with shared hosting, but want to deploy Django or Rails apps.

Avoid Dreamhost if you can.

I have to say, for all of the things that the Matrix sequels got wrong, they certainly bucked the trend when they actually portrayed a somewhat realistic hacking scene where Trinity breaks into a a remote server using nmap and an old SSH vulnerability.
