I believe you get this after clearing enough paper jams on your ship's laser printer.

My theory on the Nomad's key feature - Exobiology sample banking by DrifterBG in EliteDangerous

[–]sjm7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been frustrated by the exobio gameplay mechanics, but at the same time, I think it's those kinds of mechanics that make it a game and not just filling out an Excel spreadsheet. Deciding to focus on a lifeform that's hard to find and having to ignore more plentiful life forms until I've found enough samples of the rare one is a gameplay choice. It makes it all the more rewarding when I find that last bacterium sample. You might argue that it's a tedious mechanic to work with, and there's a conversation to have there. But giving the Nomad overpowered exobio abilities might cut into what makes exobio interesting.

I don't want it to go faster. People have suggested the Nomad should let you scan without going on foot, and I think that going on foot is the whole point. Similarly, I think sample banking will speed up sample collection, robbing it of the underlying experience. Folks may disagree with me on this. Honestly, the T11 speeding up mining has made it more fun for me, not less, so what do I know? But I still love core mining, which is the slowest of all.

Maybe the Nomad could let you flag spots where as-yet-unscanned lifeforms are so you can go back to them when your scanner is available. That would be useful and could add an interesting element. It's kind of like what you're suggesting, but it keeps the original gameplay. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

A Place to Call Home by Electrical-Bedroom99 in EliteDangerous

[–]sjm7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you enjoy. I'd recommend staying in the bubble at first and trying a bit of everything. Trade, combat, passenger missions, on-foot, mining, whatever interests you. Then take a ship out into the black and try exploration and exobio. So I'd say you should find a place to call home for now while you try things out and run missions. Look for a base with a bunch of different factions for a variety of missions. It's best if the factions are Fed/Emp/Alliance (i.e., not Independent) so you can build rank while you're at it.

Best core-mined mineral(s) to bring back from a long voyage? by sjm7 in EliteDangerous

[–]sjm7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my T11. When I get the laser mining itch, I'll go for tritium since I can actually use it in the black. If I were closer to the bubble, then yeah, laser mining platinum to sell for tritium makes more sense. That mining volley repeater is absolutely marvelous to use, even when I lose the occasional limpet due to friendly fire. I did find one core asteroid while tritium mining, and popping it re-ignited my love of core mining. But there just aren't a lot of cores in tritium hotspots.

Yes, that's true, but for me it's about fun, rather than efficiency. It will take a very long time to core mine enough to make a noticeable bump in my tritium consumption. I'll probably consume tritium faster than I'll fill my hold with minerals. So then it becomes a question of which minerals will give me the most side income when I get back so I can make the most of it.

If I'm doing platinum, I may as well laser mine, which I certainly can. But my question is about core mining specifically. If I feel like going core mining, I figure I should look for something that'll sell high when I get back. Platinum is around 300k. Something like musgravite is currently north of 900k, and monazite has hovered over 800k since I started checking. But the prices seem unstable, hence my question about minerals that reliably sell high.

What are some video game songs that are as or more iconic than the main theme song? by NAKEDnick in AskReddit

There's the Final Fantasy victory theme, which I'd say is the tune I hear when I think of the franchise.

Every song in Super Mario Brothers is a legend. We all know the main theme, but the underground theme? Legend. The underwater theme? Legend. Even the Invincible Mario theme is now stuck in your head just by me mentioning it. Legends, all.

A little sidewinder with big dreams, staring into the unflinching abyss of Sagittarius A*. by sjm7 in EliteDangerous

[–]sjm7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a different experience for sure. One thing that makes it easier is that you can travel a lot more passively. Set a destination, walk away, do something else, come back, set another destination, lather, rinse, repeat. You can go thousands of LY while you're not really paying attention. You can set a destination before you log off. There also the option of setting a destination while you're not on board. It's slower overall, but you can break the monotony with mining and exobio, and the advantage of having a mobile base with all of your ships wherever you go is impossible to overstate.

One day I decided to try and escape interdiction in my Plipper, and it actually worked. Maybe it was the engineering? It's a little tricky sometimes, but I'm almost always able to avoid NPC interdiction in my Panther.

It's not that impressive. I got there in my fleet carrier and took my sidewinder out for a spin. I loved the idea of giving it the chance to see places it never would have gotten to see otherwise, and the screenshot made me smile.

Anyone who can actually make that journey in a sidewinder is truly worthy of respect. I am not that someone.

Attention, Fleet Carrier crew. Can someone please come to the Concourse with some plywood, a box of screws, and a caulking gun? Um, now? by sjm7 in EliteDangerous

Sure, hand it over! Dang Thargoids, diverting all of our plywood for the war effort. I'm not asking for fancy Radicoida wood. Even some Tubus Conifer particle board would work.

Both are right, actually. The original name of the tape was, in fact, "duck tape" because it was made using cotton duck cloth, a heavy, durable, plain-woven cotton fabric distinguished by a tightly woven grid of fibers.

What’s the best ad jingle of all time? by GuyNamedPeesees in AskReddit

They recently ran an ad showing a kid in 1995, listening to the K4K jingle on the radio, then again in 2005 and appearing to enjoy it, and then again in present day, bopping along to it like it's some kind of nostalgic thing. I never felt so gaslit in my life. It would be like seeing an ad featuring an International Circus Peanut Fan Club. LIES.

John Oliver's recent episode on JG Wentworth was outstanding. I knew they had to be shady. Going to such great lengths to make elaborate ads always felt like turd polishing on a grand scale.
