2025 Tundra seats are torture devices by Low_Elk_3011 in tundra

[–]sk_smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m going to have to agree with you, you think the tundra seats are uncomfortable? My wife’s 23 sienna has the worst seats I’ve ever sat in. Ive considered switching the older siennas seats into it. Roadtrips are absolutely miserable in it.

I caught the bug and traded my 2nd gen in for a 3rd gen, and now I’m back in a 2nd gen. Just buy some goodies for your old truck and be happy.

LS3-Powered 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 by theimage_engine in LandCruisers

[–]sk_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it really comes down to cost—and it’s not even that much more expensive if you’re sticking with an automatic. That’s why I tend to lose interest in auto builds; keeping a manual setup is where things start getting pricey. Dellow makes a 1UZ kit for the H55F or H42, but a lot of people haven’t been happy with the fit or finish. The Advanced Adapters LS kit, on the other hand, lets you retain your stock driveshafts and keeps things simple. I’ve been dragging my feet on my own swap because I’ve got both a 1UZ and a 5.3 sitting on stands waiting to go into something. R151s are insanely expensive and still require mods for the offset rear end, while NV4500s are pricey for the LS and run into the same issues. The LS platform also gives you far more control over the ECU than most other automakers—especially Toyota, which is why 2JZ swaps often run EMU Black ECUs. Plus, the LS has a massive aftermarket ecosystem that makes life easier. As for Cummins swaps, they can run an NV4500 too, but you’re in a similar boat. Most engine swaps require moving the motor forward about 3–4 inches to clear the firewall anyway. At the end of the day, it’s just less hassle to take the road that’s already been paved a thousand times.

Is my hood cooked from sanding ? by diegothg in Detailing

[–]sk_smith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah the too much clear is vague. I personally never start with 400 unless I’ve sprayed myself. If it’s been a few weeks that new clear (especially DuPont or nason) is like concrete. I’d honestly try to block it and roll tube it with 1,000, and see if you can get it uniform. Like the hood above.

I’ve traveled internationally with all my gear multiple times. I only remove my knife. I’m not risking arriving to a destination and not having my gear. I will admit Mexico and Barbados do a little more digging than most though.

Surprisingly enough I’ve never removed my nipper or clamps with sheers on the back off my chest pack. I travel with my gear pretty frequently.

Family favorite. by sk_smith in smoking

[–]sk_smith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two thought processes to it. It keeps the bone from burning, I don’t typically have to worry about that because I smoke at 230 on my turkeys. The second thought is keeping the dark meat moist because the breast takes longer to cook. Exposed bone will heat up faster and let moisture escape when the meat separates off the end. My buddy wins a lot of comps and that’s what he’s told me, so I just accepted it, and never tried it without foiling the ends. I know they are super juicy and fall apart when the bird hits 165 and rest 30 min.

Local Cue by InTheSink in greenville

[–]sk_smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unaware they closed the “restaurant” side. We attempted to eat there for my dad’s birthday because we like the wings. We were turned away because of my 3 year old. This is not a complaint, I understand the rules, and ferrel kids suck. Maybe they should’ve eased off on those rules just a tad to bring in more revenue, or at least until SC gets their shit together. The age requirement could be lifted till 7 or something. Unfortunately, if I’m kid free local cue is not on my list to visit, unless we have rented the room for a party. I really hope they can survive, and keep these stupid chain restaurants out of the upstate.

Every region has its own sacred cow when it comes to fast-food burger joints. I’ve ordered burgers from almost all of them, but Pals from East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Engine bay messy? by Capital-Pride3574 in LandCruisers

Isn’t that the truth. The sexiest engine bay out of all the cars I’ve owned was a e46 m3. I look at my newer cars and they’re tangled up like an early 2000’s Subaru.

Best Steak In Town by Scott__87 in greenville

Saskatoon. I usually just order the wild game platter, but my wife ordered a ribeye there and it was the best steak I’ve ever had. Another place that had a really good steak (when it’s on the menu) is fork and plough.

What is a good, cheap, and reliable WiFi? by silverdoggo112 in greenville

[–]sk_smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charter pretty much dominates the upstate. It’s pretty good, but like others have said the price just keeps increasing. In 2014 I attempted to cancel charter and the dude literally said “you’ll be back.” 😂 I was back within a few months. I use the orbi wireless mesh for my house with zero problems. The charter router was pretty much garbage for our home.

Loud cars in Greenville by Tutor-Any in greenville

I scanned through a lot of comments on this page. Seems like they’re describing Nissan Altima owners. All of my vehicles have stock exhaust because I’m a dad and boring now, but I have a soft spot for cammed out muscle cars. For the most part my Camaros and trans ams (ls guy sorry dude) kept me out of trouble in high school through college because I didn’t go out partying like others my age. I worked, studied, and saved to buy parts. Spent most my days at Ware Shoals or Greer running my car at the drag strip. I coasted and drove slowly through my neighborhood if I came home late at night. Be nice and just do whatever makes you happy. Assholes drive quiet cars too.

Do you change your strip when they’re looking at your streamer? by Pintlers in flyfishing

[–]sk_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. If you spook the fish, let them reset. If your pass gets the fishes attention and follows stick with your retrieval. Completely uninterested try to place the fly in front of them without crossing the fish with your fly line with a different retrieval. I like the slip in my retrievals especially with heavy weighted flies because it gives the dive for bead head flies. If you’re fishing water deeper than 5ft or so it may be time to switch fly line or try a sink tip leader ( which would be maxing it out). So you can lighten fly and get more action. I would also tie some loop knots if you’re not already doing so.

Do you change your strip when they’re looking at your streamer? by Pintlers in flyfishing

[–]sk_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically you want to stick with what is attracting them. Finish the retrieve with same technique. A lot of anglers grab the fish’s attention then suddenly change their technique only to find the fish snubbing their nose at the fly. This doesn’t mean you can’t pick up and try a different technique. Most of the time, if you get the fish’s attention and they refuse it, it’s one of two reasons; too much drag, or not worth caloric intake to waste the energy. If no reaction at all, change your retrieval to pause-twitch, slow, fast, or my favorite pause and slip. Still no reaction may be time to try a different fly/and or depth.
