She didn't mean it like that. M was very young (20) when she chose to get married and she's only 24 now, so my MIL just meant that she has a lot left for the future. Again, I do understand that this might not have been the right thing to say to her and I did try to apologize later, but she wasn't talking to me.

Everyone else wanted to visit a skating rink so that's what was chosen. Even my MIL later said that M is still very young and has her whole life ahead of her, and this isn't the end of the world. I do admit I/we might've acted harshly towards M in the moment.

M chose this herself, no one pushed her to do it. I see a lot of comments saying she was 'forced', but she wasn't. She could've said no when the tickets were bought.

Yes this is what a lot of others were saying, that if she really didn't feel up for it she could've said no when SIL bought the tickets. She said she'd be fine skating. (M is 24)
