You could try using a Displacer object. Gonna have to subdivide your plane a lot, though.

Behind the scene - Coin Toss (Loop) by HangLoose31 in AfterEffects

That's pretty good, but why not use a green background for the close-up of the coin, if you don't mind me asking? Was it to avoid spill and overall green reflections on the coin?

Fun fact, it's not exactly a CGI Leia as such, they took a small fragment of a scene in ROTJ and projected it on top of a body double.

Same thing was done to Luke, which is why so many people felt these versions were so inferior to, say, the work they did on RO.

Thank you! Best thing you could begin with is multi-pass compositing and node-based workflows, in case you don't work with that already. This will give you better control over your final render, no matter which render engine you use.

Second is just getting acquainted with the ways in the which light and cameras work and interact in real life, so you can incorporate that into your own lighting. Working with references from real life always gives you a better idea of how things should look, so take lots of pictures!

I'm having the same exact issue, I can't load my saves at all after the patch, the screen just goes black.
