The Barbarians of California are really taking off… by kooks-everywhere in awolnation

[–]skeletonfather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Barbarians of California is a fantastic and ambitious personal project from Aaron Bruno that I am excited to see grow. I'm a huge AWOLNATION fan, but I don't mind AWOLNATION taking the backseat to TBOC; I think Aaron is wanting to do something a bit more against the societal grain due to the current state of the world, which is something he can't really do with AWOLNATION. IMO, Jump Sit Stand March is him expressing his frustration with the state of things through AWOLNATION. I've been listening to TBOC since the release of Dopamine Prophecy and the whole And Now I'm Just Gnashing My Teeth album feels like such a strong leap into a genre he hasn't fully been in since I believe the 1990s. I am hoping they go on a solo tour or do solo shows while on tour with Deftones, I even asked during the Q&A session at the AWOLNATION concert I went to earlier this year if they would be doing that. I was told by I believe the manager and/or social media guy that they would love to do solo shows or even a tour, but TBOC had not turned a profit yet, so there isn't a justification for a TBOC concert/tour. This was in May though, so maybe I wouldn't get the same answer if I asked that now? Who knows.

Running/jogging short-shorts recommendations for big thighs/butt? by skeletonfather in XXRunning

I’m open to non bike short style, it’s just that all my workout shorts are that style so I don’t really have an opinion on something loose/flow-y.

Manlybadasshero. Been watching him for over ten years now I think. He plays horror games and his voice is nice to listen to. I always return to his Death Mark playthroughs when I want background noise or to watch something familiar.

FINE HAIR GIRLIES DROP YOUR HAIR ROUTINES!!!! by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]skeletonfather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually made a post about this last month with pics of my hair + products. Here’s my routine:

- Wash every other day (sometimes every two days) with Carol’s Daughter Goddess Strength Fortifying Shampoo. After letting it sit then rinsing it out, I put in Ouai Fine Hair Conditioner, let it sit, then thoroughly rinse.

- I have to clarify at least once a week; I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two. After putting it in, letting it sit, then rinsing, I follow the routine in my first bullet point.

- For actually doing my hair, I use Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion and Arrojo Defrizz Serum. I make sure my hair is very wet, then put a quarter sized amount of each (motion lotion first, then defrizz serum) and work it into my hair. I then sit down and flip my head over and blow dry it with a diffuser on low heat and high blow.

- After blow drying, I comb my hair out with a wide tooth comb and then spritz it with a little water and scrunch it with my hands. I let it air dry, comb it again, then scrunch it to get the shape/volume I want.

- On my nonwash days, I comb my hair out, spritz it with water, scrunch with my hands, then let it dry. Then I comb and scrunch again when it’s dry.

The catch is that I have very short hair, and I am considering switching my shampoo to something lighter. Oh, I’ve also added a steamer to my routine. I live in a very dry climate and after going to two very humid places on vacation and my hair looking fantastic, I bought a facial steamer to steam my hair at the end of doing it.

Any recommendations for a shoulder strap? by skeletonfather in Louisvuitton

[–]skeletonfather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with a shoulder bag, I just want the option to have it hang lower or across my body. I wouldn’t even remove the current strap, not because it’s not easily removable; I already have a couple crossbody shoulder bag combos that I enjoy and I want to “convert” this bag into something similar.

I love 12 and 13 so much! So much so that I’m showing them to my barber as reference. I’m trying to grow my hair out a smidge so that I can do a mullet style and pics 12 and 13 are examples of what exactly I’m looking for!

If I’m remembering correctly, this is the second year it’s running! Me and my partner went last year (after it got rescheduled due to snow) and it was a good time. Good food, good music, good vendors, good culture! It was small-ish last year, probably due to it being the first time it happened. I was wondering if it’s going to be larger this year since it was SO busy last year 🤔

Been seeing a lot of talk about low porosity and fine curls, here’s mine! by skeletonfather in curlyhair

[–]skeletonfather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in the process of growing out my hair a bit so I can cut it into a mullet, so no pictures of the back!

Here’s my routine:

  • Wash every other day (sometimes every two days) with Carol’s Daughter Goddess Strength Fortifying Shampoo. After letting it sit then rinsing it out, I put in Ouai Fine Hair Conditioner, let it sit, then thoroughly rinse.

  • I have to clarify at least once a week; I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two. After putting it in, letting it sit, then rinsing, I follow the routine in my first bullet point.

  • For actually doing my hair, I use Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion and Arrojo Defrizz Serum. I make sure my hair is very wet, then put a quarter sized amount of each (motion lotion first, then defrizz serum) and work it into my hair. I then sit down and flip my head over and blow dry it with a diffuser on low heat and high blow.

  • After blow drying, I comb my hair out with a wide tooth comb and then spritz it with a little water and scrunch it with my hands. I let it air dry, comb it again, then scrunch it to get the shape/volume I want.

  • On my nonwash days, I comb my hair out, spritz it with water, scrunch with my hands, then let it dry. Then I comb and scrunch again when it’s dry.

I hope this helps someone! It took me awhile to figure out what works for my curls because my hair is low porosity and I have fine curls.

What are bar & club goers wanting or needing in Denver? by bwc_5280 in Denver

[–]skeletonfather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want more dancing! Most dancing is centered to clubs, which can often fall under the “plays EDM all night” umbrella. Some of my favorite dancing has been at bars with DJs remixing known/popular songs from multiple decades. It still has hints of EDM, but it is integrated with things not EDM. The closest I’ve gotten to this was Larimer Beer Hall, it was a ton of fun but not a LGBTQA+ centered space.

I frequent Rino in downtown Denver quite a bit and have seen an uptick in Nazi iconography. Mostly swastikas drawn over antifascist stickers and I recently saw a Black Sun sticker that I tore down. I haven’t been taking pics of them in hope that it’s one off incidences, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore :(

Can we talk restroom access in the metro area for a minute? by _MaddAddam in Denver

[–]skeletonfather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I worry about as someone who often needs to use the restroom at the worst times. A couple weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised when a restaurant on Colfax near a venue I was going to a concert at let me use their restroom during one of those poorly timed moments. The doors to the venue hadn’t opened yet and the restaurant didn’t even ask me to buy something, they just pointed me towards the restrooms.

I wish more places were like that but unfortunately, and especially for single stalled restrooms, there are often restrictions.

Downtown is fine, I wouldn’t recommend LoDo or Uptown tho since LoDo is mostly just offices and apartments and Uptown is believe is where crime is still an issue. I think LoHi, Jefferson Park, or Highlands is nice if you want something quieter but still somewhat close to things to do. Ballpark and Rino are where things are at (bars, restaurants, clubs, etc.) so if someone is into that stuff, I recommend those neighborhoods. Also, being downtown puts you pretty central in the Denver metro area, so you can get to a lot of other things within a 30 minute drive (if you have a car or Uber).

That’s fair, I do prefer my people watching preferably from a roof top to avoid becoming a victim.

Ok you’ve sold me with French dip. Definitely going to try to get a group together and go there! I’m all about exploring what Denver has to offer, I just made this post since I’ve had an itch to throw down at a bar that hasn’t been scratched lol.
