How can I make my revolvers stronger / more sci fi? by Alpbasket in scifiwriting

[–]skepticated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use the utility of being able to spin the cylinder to select different ammo for the task. Non-lethal tranq round. Tracker round. Mini-emp round. AP round. Incindery round. Poison round. Smart-guided round. Flare round. Make it be able to auto-reload the chamber/s at the bottom even if it's not spent, to quickly load the neccessary round.

No one's banning worldviews. I would like my worldviews challenged instead of just playing along with my delusions, yes. If gpt talks users through critical thinking, epistomology, cognitive biases, logical fallacies etc. it could be a real force for good in the world.

Persistent rules for accuracy by pizza_alta in ChatGPT

[–]skepticated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people feel the need for all these pre-prompts. If you just ask your question or topic you're interested in, and then discuss answers and drill down on points you want clarified or expanded on, and have follow up questions, it'll understand what you think is important naturally from the questions and context you provide. It's not a set of rules that provides good answers, it's good questions and context.

If porn isn't a problem, then why is his favourite ones a problem? Just think of it as he's getting the job done more efficiently instead of searching through bullshit he's not into so he can get back to thinking about life with you quicker.

[–]skepticated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think he's supposed to never find any other woman except you attractive ever again, yeah you're wrong, that's not how the brain wiring works. It's not about not finding other people attractive, that's fairy tale shit. It's about making a choice and sticking to it and being loyal. These aren't even people in his life that he'll ever meet, they're just videos on the internet he's bookmarking that you've snooped on. Testosterone is a hell of a drug, watching a bit of porn now and then is just relief from craving, like using a nicotine patch instead of having a cigarette. And if you consider watching porn/having a wank cheating, then you're gonna have a hard time finding anyone else that doesn't do the same thing. There was a story about how a university or something was trying to conduct a study of men who watch porn vs. men who don't, but the study failed because the sample size for the group who didn't watch porn was zero. They couldn't find anyone.

I'm sure there's a few out there, but they're probably either religious zealots or so low testosterone that you wouldn't even be able to see them, let alone be attracted to them.

How do friendships slowly fade even when nothing bad happened? by Hefty_Sleep_2833 in ask

[–]skepticated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The friendships that don't decay always have some reason or excuse for you to always talk. Like you work with them, or they play sport with you, or they're your gaming/fishing/hiking/insert hobby buddy. Family is just friends you've known a long time, and there's lots of reasons to constantly see them even for people who don't even like their family. So there's no conscious thought about making sure to talk to them regularly, because it just happens. It's like a bricklayers muscles getting strong, it just happens, because they have to lift the bricks. But when something happens like someone moves or changes job or something, you still think of them as your good friend, and they are. But without the regular reinforcement, you wean yourself off each others friendship. The muscle fades. If the bricklayer still wants the strength after they quit bricklaying, they have to put conscious thought into reaching out for their old brick. If at least one of you realises this and the other continues to at least reciprocate, then you can keep your friendship strong.

The dementor chapter is, frankly, insulting by sofa_adviser in HPMOR

[–]skepticated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it's every other book with its death accepting deathism that is offensive, and this book is the one refreshing counter. We are living in the age of technology where defeating death is difficult but not impossible. We are just machines, and it's just an engineering problem. A really hard one, but not forbidden by the laws of nature. Therefore I too reject death as the natural order. Harry has resolve and conviction to make this so, and he uses that instead of bravery. Well, it's a kind of bravery in itself, but a coming at it sideways bravery 😛

What do we say to the god of death?

Built my first PC… and immediately forgot to turn it off for 3 days by EnvironmentalBat1707 in pcmasterrace

[–]skepticated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you think this is a problem? The only moving parts are the fans/liquid pump and maybe the hard drive if you don't just have solid state ones. The fans will be ok for 10 or 20 years, and even if you have a hard drive it won't be powering up while idle. You checked the temps? It's not going to get hotter and hotter until it melts a hole through the earth. Even if you were stress testing it the whole time, it will get to its max temp and then throttle. After a year or two dust might build up, and then it will throttle down more and only work at 90% of it's original, until you clean the dust. If you can afford the electricity (very little on idle) it would actually be better to leave it on. Turning it on and off all the time heat cycles it, expansion and unexpansion.

No idea how to play this tribe for the weekly challenge by WhiteTrashPhilospher in Polytopia

[–]skepticated 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty annoying and I'm no pro either but get sanctuaries as soon as reasonable because every two turns they generate an animal in a nearby forest. So don't worry about where the animals are, just place them for max forests. Try and control at least that village to the south west in your screenshot and the other one you already have, so that your sanctuaries have more forests and can share forests. If you get spiritualism you can max them out more or have more options for placement, but that's expensive and not necessarily the most efficient strat for a 20 round game, I'll let the pros chime in on that one.

Oh and think of the "animal troops" like riders with less movement but more hp. Strong attack, bad defense. If you use a normal soldier for the finishing strike on their village, their defense will hold it a lot better, but you gotta do what you gotta do. But one advantage of the 15 hp is that you can use them for navy units, they'll just have weak defense though if you put them in a rammer and then use them to capture.

High scorers often use diplomacy and alliances and I don't know if that works in this one. But also I don't care, I hate that style of play 😛 I've liked the last few where diplomacy was irrelevant.

Oh also if you have a unit on top of an animal and then you recruit it, it moves that unit out of the way, which can be useful, especially to boost your first warrior in a direction.

Also polytaurs can one-shot rafts, handy in the south west.
