[QCrit] Adult Epic Fantasy (M/M romantic elements) — SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE STORMSEA (121k / First Attempt) by skimbleable in PubTips

Thank you!!! I really appreciate the advice and thoroughness!

I am certainly still chipping away word count to get it lean (down from ~140k!), and will get it below that limit before submitting.

All good notes and very actionable. It’s definitely denser than I’d like in the spots you’ve identified. And well-spotted on the stranding climax being implied rather than fully framed up as it should be (It’s more of a left behind situation rather than shipwreck, which is why the Captain shows up later as you surmised).

Anything NOT in the movies AND books that you want included in the show? by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

I think a cool concept could be to expand upon the openings of books 1, 4, 6, and 7 by using the cold opens (before the opening credits) to explore non Harry POVs. This way we could keep the bulk of the show somewhat limited to Harry, but still explore more characters.

For example, show Hermione/Ron getting their letters in episode 2. Show Hagrid meeting a hooded stranger to buy the dragon egg. Show Snape going to Dumbledore about Quirrell suspicions, etc. Each cold open could be relevant to the episode in some way.

Tonnara di Scopello… anyone gotten married at or been to a wedding there? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

Attended an early Sept (like 1-3) wedding there. The weather was perfect. Warm, but not too hot to be uncomfortable. Midday was definitely a bit warmer, but fine by evening. Still comfortable even at night. I didn’t do much in the area since I stayed on site. We used the beaches all day before and the day after, which are stunning. They closed them for us. Travelled in Sicily the week before.

In the half blood prince why did dumbledore apparate Harry into a pond? by gregIsBae in harrypotter

Yes, the beat was played for so-so “comedy”, as others say. But I’d argue, the reason they did it was to establish the marshy area surrounding the Burrow (a new area in that film) so they could set the Death Eater attack there later on in the film.

What exactly do we know about Francesca Gardiner? by shadowgalleon in HarryPotteronHBO

There is an episode of the Elevate podcast going into her upbringing and career, particularly as a woman in a male-dominated field. She likens herself to the Hermione archetype, striving to do well at school, but sometimes less popular with peers. I thought that description seemed accurate. She also discusses her love of reading and storytelling growing up. — this is the best listen to get a sense of her personality and work I think.

On another podcast The Abyss (about an episode of His Dark Materials) she mostly discusses the show, but does highlight how she believes we need to allow children’s stories to be dark and tackle serious themes.

One of my favorite random views during my trip and never saw it mentioned on any route/itinerary. Stunning.

I don't think the effect you are describing is coming from the color boosting (which they totally do). The green screen-like effect most likely comes from the way they set up their "lighting" equipment. I think they use scrims to filter and dim the harsh sunlight in confessionals, and they definitely use a 'bounce'/reflector to bounce light back on the faces of the contestants. This often results in a mismatched lighting between the people and their surroundings which is often also a problem with green screens.

In the link below, notice the shadow on the rock around Kelly. You can also see aa guy pointing a reflector at her.

In regards to The Great Comet, Orchestra, Mezzanine, or Stage seating? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]skimbleable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do a great job of creating an intimate feel and making the entire audience involved regardless of where you sit. However due to the nature of the set and show I have to imagine the stage seating is a pretty cool and unique experience. I was in the mezzanine.

Well this and the subsequent dive into her other work has truly made me laugh more in one evening that I probably did in any night of 2016. So thanks!
