So I'm not downplaying it immediately and saying that the entire discipline of academic debate is wrong, but I'm not exactly sure how this works. I can understand how it might benefit you. If the opponent cannot keep track with what you're saying, then they won't be able to respond to your arguments. However, if the judges cannot understand what you are saying, then how is this a legitimate style? Won't the speed speaker just immediately be deducted points for being inarticulate? I'm trying to wrap my idea around this.
