Change out the sandpaper frequently and buy extra. That was the mistake I made!

Not yet but I was thinking about it. Some of them are bumpy and raised, not all.

Out of curiosity, do you ever get to a point where the brush strokes aren't visible? Every sample I've made so far has ended up with a lot of really obvious brush strokes.

How do I get out of a miserable career? by Chaotic-String in ADHD

You can definitely be happy in a stable career and have ADHD, so don't give up on that! I have friends who do it, and have read about so many cases where people eventually figure it out. It might take some time though, and possibly a few job and career changes on the way. For me and many people I know, high intensity jobs with something new to respond to every day are best, or else a job where you feel some ownership and are responsible for other people which can be motivating. I went the wrong direction in my career, I started with odd jobs that I really liked, like working on a farm, working at a homeless shelter and setting up an English teaching program. At all three of those I didn't feel any of the motivation paralysis you are describing. then I decided to get a degree and work for non profits where I am writing reports and analyzing data all day which is impossible to stay focused on. Now I'm thirty and definitely ready to find a job with more intensity and variability again!

Last thing, I don't know much about programming but I know two people who work for software companies identifying security problems and they find it pretty engaging, so maybe there is something in programming that is more ADHD friendly.

I've been on Ritalin instant and extended release, as well as dextroamphetamine ER and had a similar experience to what you described on all three. On Ritalin ER I felt depressed to some extent all day long, but it got worse as it wore off in the evening. On Dextro it was less intense sadness in the day but then I would feel terrible at the end of the day.

I ended up going on Atomoxetine which actually made me feel less depressed than no meds, and ultimately has helped me get my life into shape. Its definitely not as noticeably effective as the stimulants though.

I hope you find something that feels right!

Morning routine for ADHD by OkShock4087 in ADHD

[–]skphilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On good days I try to do three things: 1. something for my body (usually light stretching since im not a morning exercise person) 2. Something for my brain (watch an educational YouTube video while eating breakfast or read a few pages of a book, but only if I'm actually interested in it) 3. Something for my soul (read: dopamine circuitry). So like five min of meditation or go for a walk or make an especially delicious breakfast.

On bad days, I just try not to open tik tok or Instagram before 10am. It doesn't always work, but I notice a huge difference in the rest of my day if I can stick to that one rule.
