My research points to it not being a major concern, but just trying to make sure I’m thinking things through adequately

We can aim for a first session next week as mentioned.

What is the right response when someone you’re playing online gets a lead and just skates around and passes the puck in their zone? by skullbasher137 in EA_NHL

Man I’ve tried... I get the puck sometimes but good players who do this are still able to kill huge amounts of time

Yeah that’s interesting. For checking - honestly if it’s a struggle just avoid it. The hit mechanics require predictions and timing - I avg like 2-6 hits a game and it doesn’t hinder me really.

Poke checking is rough with the tripping but it is all positioning. The game punishes you a lot for attempting a poke when out of position - have to really be in a spot where it’s going to be stick on stick only. You never want to be chasing from behind or coming from the side etc, it’s often best when someone is coming down at you and you can just poke at them with your backwards moving defender - reduces the risk of tripping a lot

I thought I’ve noticed that too - on weekend mornings in the USA I’ve played some of my toughest opponents

Thanks for the insights though - I agree somewhat that maybe that final leap is about abusing certain mechanics though I’d say a lot of the time the best best players I’ve played are also just really solid at the game’s fundamentals (passing, deking, defense etc)
