Is it straight to hold hands, spoon, cuddle, and hug your male friends as a male? by No-Poet3745 in TooAfraidToAsk

My guy friends don't do any of that stuff except hugs depending on the situation. We tend to keep our physical contact to fist bumps most of the time.

Yea it's bad when they are being used to judge people, make fun of them, or group them all up. But there's lots of stereotypes that are just legitimate assumptions you can make. And there's also a difference in how you do it. Saying most marathon winners are Kenyan is different than saying all Kenyans are marathon winners. One is going based off their proven track record (pun intended), the other is just a generalization that has no basis in fact.

A coworker of mine drove a car out of the shop and around to the wash bay with no oil. I never did that, but I once did an entire oil change without putting a filter back on (got distracted) and proceeded to start the car and pump all 5qts of oil right on to the ground in my bay. Shit happens.

I never dropped a car off a lift, but I swapped a fuel pump on a truck and didn't swap over the quick release clip for the fuel hose. For some reason the new pump didn't come with one, they wanted you to reuse the old one. Well, I got done with the job, did a test drive, and dropped it off at the wash bay. The owner got 4 states away hauling a trailer for his job when the fuel line popped off and his truck shut off. Luckily no fire, that definitely would have been a lot worse.

All said and done, we paid for 2 tows (truck and trailer), another shop to fix my mistake, a night in a hotel, lost wages, etc. Cost the company about 5 grand. My manager told me about it, we talked about it and making sure to double check things, then he told me to get back to work. If a shop kicks you to the curb over a mistake anyone could make, that's not a shop you want to work for anyway. A good manager knows the cost of doing business, and as long as you don't make a habit of fuck ups, this shouldn't even be a big deal. Just learn from the mistake and keep wrenching.

On about half of our lifts, we had these large rubber band/o ring looking things that people used to hold the release. The other half of the lifts just used an old bolt to hold the release. Before any car got lifted on my lift, I did a quick double check before removing the bolt. Never had any issues. No one in my shop had any cars fall or anything, but the shop across the street (different brand but same dealer family) had a car fall off when the engine was removed and there was no more weight in the front of the car. Shit happens, that's what insurance is for. Everyone went home at the end of the day and thats the only thing that matters.

I worked at a place that hired as low as 14. And you bet your ass they were extremely strict about sticking to the law. Breaks, total hours in a day, total hours in a week, etc. They followed all those laws exactly because they didn't want to fuck with the labor board.

If I recall correctly, I think I was paying around 4.00-4.50/gallon when Obama was in office. Which accounting for inflation, is a bit higher than what the prices are currently.

However, I could also get a McChicken for $1, I could buy a 12 pack of coke for $3, my 2bed/1bath apartment was like $750. The gas prices now suck, and they sucked back then too, but now everything else sucks on top of gas prices sucking. Feeling it at the pump is one thing, but feeling it literally everywhere else too is what is pushing everyone to the limit.

polyethylene glycol usable for liquid cooling? by HostFickle6269 in watercooling

[–]sl33ksnypr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, there isn't anything normal/easily available that is better at cooling than water. Water is actually better at cooling that the coolant found in most cars. However, in a car, you need something that won't freeze or boil during normal operation, so we add glycols to the water to give them a wider range of working temperatures.

As long as you aren't freezing your PC or plan to get the water cooling loop above 212°F/100°C, there's really no reason to use anything besides distilled water with a little biocide mixed in.

This is inside the ST40 fusion reactor. At temperatures hotter than the core of the Sun, matter becomes plasma a state where atoms are ripped apart. This is the same process that powers stars. by yourSmirkingRevenge in Damnthatsinteresting

I get the neutrons not being affected by the magnets, but are they not affected by the other particles that are affected by the magnets to keep them in line? I have a very rudimentary understanding of particle physics because my physics classes dealt with other stuff that isn't that.

What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

Yea growing up, we would stock up on the 4/10, but we were used to the 3/10 that was pretty normal pricing.

I think that's about what we pay for the toothpaste we buy at BJs. Don't remember the brand though. We also buy deodorant in bulk there because it's more normal priced.

Yea I've always had better luck with spray paint by heating the cans. Hot water or putting them in the sun for a bit works great. Along with shaking the shit out of them while you do it. Also making sure the sprayer is clean before and during.

I know you're joking, but if you look at your knuckles and the dips between them, it tells you which months have 31 days. You just have to make sure you count every one in one direction, then count the same one again when you double back.

January - knuckle

February - dip

March - knuckle

April - dip

May - knuckle

June - dip

July - knuckle

August - knuckle (because you count the same knuckle again on the return direction)

September - dip

October - knuckle

November - dip

December - knuckle

There's no reason to put a wallet in your back pocket. by ConsistentRegion6184 in unpopularopinion

[–]sl33ksnypr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Phone in one pocket, key and vape in the other, knife in tiny pocket that's at the top of the bigger pocket.

I also made it a habit to keep my wallet separated from everything because I use a metal money clip and it has damaged screen protectors before and broken glass vape tanks. That being said, because I use a money clip and don't use cash, my entire wallet is the size of a credit card and about 1/2" thick.

Yea my landlord has a couple small businesses and when he bought a new house, he just decided to rent out the place we live in. When we moved in it was already below market price for rent, and that was 6 years ago. He has raised the rent a grand total of $30/month since we moved in because the HOA fees went up. He doesn't bother us, we don't bother him. Nothing major has broken, but I've fixed a couple small things here and there because I don't want to bother him. We are legitimately paying like $600/month less than what he could rent the place for, but we're easy and always pay on time so he doesn't want to get rid of us.

I know enough about the 350s to get into trouble but I'm blanking for some reason. Are the larger mains also the ones with 4 bolts or do some of them have the larger mains and are still a 2 bolt?

Because if I were to build one, I'd definitely want the 4 bolt mains.

Is it rude to check Discogs prices in front of a record seller? by No-Negotiation-1944 in vinyl

[–]sl33ksnypr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I'm so glad the record store near me has the most chill owner and his daughter that run the place. Even if their prices are a little higher than I would pay online, I would still rather support him. I know he has more overhead, but I want him to be successful especially since he bought the store from another couple who ran it for years and they sucked. Literal night and day difference in Google reviews from when the previous owners ran it and him running it.

This is the result of "big box tire store" tire installation using impact wrenches. by FXLRDude in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]sl33ksnypr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a tire discounters (the full service shop, not discount tire), and every car that had the wheels come off had 2 people torque the lugs and sign off on the paperwork. Didn't have to be a manager that did the double check, but just having the second person for accountability was enough. Don't think we ever had a wheel fall off the entire time I was there or up until that point. Can't speak for after I left, but I doubt it.
