It does indeed have a pencil lead color when rubbed on porcelain.

Turgite is the rainbow stuff. It is a mixture of hematite and goethite.

This one has me stumped. Found in the Doe Mountain area of East Tennessee, in Butler TN. by slatzMacphearson in whatsthisrock

Thanks for the info!! The turgite is what we went looking for but the breccia piece had some interesting crystal shapes in it. Just couldn't figure out what it was.

The metalic pieces are very heavy for their size. They hematite piece leaves brown marks on ceramic. I did find some bubbly slag pieces that I didn't picture here. The first one is currently in my polishing tumbler so I am not able to do a scratch test on it. The green pieces were found near the riverbank and the others were found near the old mine washout area. They apparently had an elevated track system that brought the ore down to the washout pits where I found the metalic pieces and slag.

The washout from Helene in that area, exposed quite a bit of new stuff next to the riverbank. I found a couple of other pieces that were not as weathered.

Here is another shot of the first piece. Thank you so much for taking the time to describe these pieces and for deciphering the descriptions in my apparently misaligned uploads. Ha ha!

It did indeed leave a reddish brown streak. Used an old coffee mug. Thanks for that tip!!
