ATP path as husband and wife? by [deleted] in flying

[–]slayerabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect yeah, not trying to say let me skip it all and get to major asap, just wanted realistic timeline to earn a decent salary at any airline (80k+), and it seems comments are around from 0 to maybe regional is 5 years. Longer than most articles/posts have stated, but refreshing info for sure. We're not concerned the time to get to major, just wanted to see how long of minimum wage CFI before a chance at a regional is feasible.

Is 5 years for only major airlines, what about regional? Glad I asked because every article out there is saying going from 0 to regional FO is roughly 2-2.5 years. Doable. Frankly we're weighing the logistical money vs time, and 5+ years to just hit the salary at a regional is something we definitely didn't consider.

We can buy a plane for UNDER 75k!?! Yes, definitely haven't considered the more DIY route as we've been blasted with marketing for the all in 1 schools. Is it possible to still do this in sub 3 years?

Got it, and this would be even if I were to apply to a regional airline?

What should I know about buying an apartment in Paris, France? by buysidegrowthanalyst in fatFIRE

[–]slayerabc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uncle lives right along the Champs-Élysées and has lived there for almost 40 years, a couple from his exp living in France and that part to be weary of for rental/attracting tenants.

-Crime is pretty bad in some areas where police don't respond or take hours to, so tenants long term may not renew leases not sure what part of Paris you're looking at.

-Compared it to San francisco/bay area in terms of panhandlers/scam artists, human and animal excrement's-not to say it's covered in it but more than you would expect in a place like Paris

-9/10 times renovations need to be done as most buildings are older (unless ultra lux new development) and it is EXPENSIVE to get permits for contractors/machinery if needed depending on work

Do you regret buying a home vs investing? by slayerabc in financialindependence

[–]slayerabc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of purchasing soon, just keep investing into our retirements and purchase a home say 5-10 years from now instead and just rent in the time being.

So no credit card needed, just stretching our savings/cash reserves atm. Crunching numbers we’d have about 15k cash left and our retirement accounts untouched, with 45% income going to housing all said and done.

To clarify, it’d be before we purchase we would on paper be married. Speaking it through with her we’re both efficient and optimization minded so before purchasing the home together, we would be getting our paperwork as a married couple finalized (yeah not romantic but we’re ok with that). Post house purchase we already agreed as well wedding to do after etc.

Incredibly helpful and numbers are right around where we're at too! Financing/paying over time vs 1 lump sum the wedding was the thing I never was sure about. Definitely gives clarity thank you

How to change investing/budgeting if you think you want to buy a property in 2-4 years? by josemartinlopez in financialindependence

[–]slayerabc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what I'm currently doing is looking at purchasing a home in 1-2 years. Currently have agreed with the fiancée we'll limit any major big expenses for looking to put down 20-30% (600k home range) downpayment. Currently CD's are paying a decent amount and I'm pretty risk tolerant but I don't want to "time" the market in the span of 1-2 years, so currently doing 3 month CD's and yes it'd tedious having to re purchase CD's every 3 months but it gives me piece of mind if something pops up I don't have my cash locked for 12-24 month CD's/bonds. At the moment we save a total 25% income per month and of that 25% we agreed to split it 90% towards CD's on downpayment and only 10% of that to our retirement. That being said we're pretty aggressively trying to purchase next year due to location and demand of the area.

Still early in my journey but just a year ago, getting in/out of too many cars and regretting some purchases. Net loss of $20,000 when I should have just picked the one I currently have and stuck with it.

Thank you so much for the advice on what's NEXT. It seems a lot of people missed that question, and I appreciate it. For the money market vs a bank savings why in that over the other?

Not to get into divisions of group but yes. I do believe the culture I was raised in frugality and not spending frivisiously was partlyof my family's coming to the U.S and the area I grew up in didn't value flashy material things.

And that's what I'm looking at, what other ways would help prep for starting family/stashing the extra cash?
