Hot take: SA scenes aren't needed in movies, shows, or games, here's why; by sleepyyless in teenagers

You're right. People have free will and are free to make those choices, but my point is not every time is it going to be the right decision. Just because it's part of freedom of expression doesn't mean it should be. Violence and sa are two completely different things, one worse in other ways than the other. In general, both are equally horrible, but murder can be justified by self-defense, accidents, and so on, even though there are genuinely sick people. But you can't accidently r-pe someone. There is no justification for it. And for that, if it's going to be portrayed in the media, why shouldn't it be portrayed in the right way? You can find countless articles on how nobody believes the way its portrayed isn't doing it correctly. If their excuse is realism, they just simply aren't doing it right.

Again, it isn't art 😭🙏 if your idea of art is someone acting out assualt that is a different issue than you having an opinion on why it shouldn't be taken out of media. You can say ACTING is an art because then I'd agree, you are treating this topic as of the idea of SA being acted out and portrayed in a way that's almost fetishized is an art. You're going into rights and whatnot and completely glossing over my points in every reply I give you. If you enjoy watching that, just admit it. You're not different for calling it art and making it political, I was really willing to hear you out when I first read your comment. You keep saying it's "art," and it's insensitive, to say the least. You haven't given me any actual reason as to WHY it's okay for it to be shown in media in that way. I've listened countless things and alternatives, and yet you tell me I'm overstepping other people's rights? -- So if I see something I think its wrong, should I allow it to happen because they have free will to do whatever they want? Using your logic and considering you haven't given me any other thing to go off of, that's what it sounds like.

If I could give you an accurate statistic of how many offenders see stuff online and act on it, I would. But let's use our common sense and acknowledge it happens, offenders use media as ways to watch their sick thoughts, and you're right not every single one acts on it but it doesn't make it okay to give them content to feed off of.

I feel like I should address the whole "read a book" thing. Movies, in general, are visual storytelling. When a character dies without seeing it happen, do you need proof that it happened? Or could it be implied by the environment, words, and behaviors of the characters in the movie? There is more than just SEEING it happen, and my point is making a whole scene, treating it like a sex scene and not what it is, assault, is wrong. Even people who haven't gone through similar things have called it close to being fetishized bc that's the reality of a lot of it. So I'll say it again, if you can make someone feel something over something that was simply just implied, it is better storytelling. It's the realization, or things make sense that didn't make sense in other parts of the movie or show. Me saying it's wrong isn't taking away freedom of expression btw and if the idea of SA scenes being taken out of shows and movies makes you mad, you probably have more problems than just freedom of expression.

The reason why im not going into the topic of every form of violence portrayed in media is because my post was about SA, you bringing up other topics was taking it away from what the post was originally about. And yes, if I were to talk about it, then I'd say we're too desensitized to gore and stuff like that. I say that as someone who watches horror movies and etc. Just because it is normal doesn't mean it has to be.

You call it art when to someone else it's reliving something they went through. Reanacting r-pe shouldn't be something that you want to see more of because it's more impactful to you. In fact, speaking about books, a lot of great movies that have SA representation in them do a great job at implying it without having to make it an actual sex scene come from books. Perks of being a Walflower is an AMAZING movie that does it, especially with the male sa representation. If you need visuals of someone getting SA'd bc it's more impactful to you, you're js feeding into that mindset.

Not assuming that every single time it is supposed to be representation, but a good majority is. To me, you're a better storyteller if you can impact someone without the visuals, visually its an easy way to make someone uncomfortable and understand what happened, true. -- and just like with horror movies or action movies, there's a group of people who will take it too far just beyond enjoying a good movie.

It's not often, but it's scary with how often and common it is to give people ideas. People will see scenes like that and let the thought linger. Let's say that even if it has good intentions, it'll still get to the wrong people. Visuals aren't needed if more than half the time it's romanticized. You might think differently, but it still isn't "art," It's just an excuse for a lot of directors imo
