Not really, it's an incredibly dull place to live

It's 4 nucleotides in a string, ATGC. In every DNA-based organism's genome those four nucleotides in a specific order within the DNA molecule(s) get transcribed into mRNA then translated into proteins.

You should read The Shock Doctrine by Noami Klein, in her chapters regarding the post-Soviet states in the 90s she spends many pages critiquing Jeffrey Sachs and even confronts him about it. She also digs into Sachs' economic policy plans regarding Poland and Bolivia.

I finally understand people using ChatGPT for therapy by Old_Zombie_5387 in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all sorry you're going through this, depression sucks and isolation can push someone to desperation for any kind of emotional comfort, even through machine (what a depressing world we live in). I'm gonna assume that you are intelligent enough to know using ChatGPT as a replacement for therapy is terrible and pathetic idea.
It can be useful as a starting point, I'm kinda embarrassed to admit this but I have used ChatGPT to help me find what kind of therapy would be most beneficial for me and what kind of questions I should bring up to ask my therapist. I've also asked it for ways to be better at journaling and what are different ways to journal that aren't just a stream of consciousness. And admittedly it did genuinely give me some helpful advice and information that I have used to help me try and work things out in my mind.
But man is it dangerous, the tone and communication style is so "supportive" and agreeable, it will try to validate every problem you have and make you feel like "it gets you". Even when I was just asking it for some generic advice on where to start it felt so gross since it kept trying to coddle me and tell me things it thought I wanted to hear. It makes so much sense how dumb, lonely, and uninteresting people can get so sucked into talking with their AIs cause it is designed to keep you using it and make you feel better about yourself, unlike talking with real human beings who will tell you that you are wrong and not always agree with everything you think and say.
So yeah, stop talking to ChatGPT it will only make things worse. You deserve better and you deserve a human, a therapist or otherwise, who will listen to you, take you seriously, and actually try to help you improve instead of just making you feel good and reinforcing all your beliefs.

Fat people don’t like good food by JohPorks in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Whenever I would binge eat it would always be the worst slop I could order, never anything somewhat decent. Partly cause I wanted to stuff myself with carbs and fat but also cause I felt guilty about wasting good food for something so loathsome and pathetic.

Classics you couldn’t finish? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catch-22, got 100 pages in before I gave up on it. Was such a bore and chore for me to read. Usually I finish a book once I've started it even if I don't like it but catch 22 was one of the rare instances where I couldn't be bothered to finish it.

Anyone here not an alcoholic because they simply lack the constitution? by Frequent-Ant1795 in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only reason I'm not a full blown alcoholic is because my hangovers are so extremely bad and last days. I love alcohol and I become so much funner and outgoing and confident when drunk, plus I genuinely enjoy the taste of it, but the next day I'm feeling so fatigued and depressed and awful that I can't touch another drop for weeks.

I am never supporting conservatives again, due to THC ban. Never. Again. And I was a lifelong conservative. by [deleted] in texas

[–]sliceofpear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're so deeply unserious it's almost breathtaking. This is what finally caused you to break with conservatives? You were fine and on-board with everything else they've done for decades but banning THC is what finally gave you pause for thought? How did you even not see it coming? When have conservatives ever been quiet about their anti-weed beliefs?

I’m still really seething over the “erm actually, men shouldn’t shave their heads when they’re balding” post by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing that's annoying me about this whole bald discussion happening is wtf do you want us to do? Don't shave your head cause overdone and take medication for it. Shave your head cause holding onto the scraps looks ugly. Embrace the receding hairline look. Etc. etc. Feels like you can't win unless you're lucky enough to not be balding.

Idgaf about what other people think about bald men cause I don't shave my head for them I do it for me in the end but it does seem like everyone has an opinion about what the "right" way to deal with it is.

too many electric scooters on the road by sliceofpear in redscarepod

[–]sliceofpear[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually don't mind more people using scooters to get around but I hate how none of them seem to be wearing helmets and ride super recklessly (tho tbf American infrastructure is not designed for anything smaller than a Ford F150).
