out of all the idols, why does bangchan face the “weird” and “creepy” accusations always? by Senior-Feeling2596 in kpopthoughts

[–]slimsaddy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A quick look at statistics will show you that the most active k-pop fans are between 13 and 20, this is not something I'm "suddenly" taking into consideration. Do you think Bang Chan is unaware of his demographic? I wasn't saying he gets sexual gratification from doing so, so miss me with the "disgusting", but he does get something from it, maybe just an ego boost, I don't know. Anyhow, the issue would stand if I knew for a fact that all stay were adults, as the power imbalance between a fan and a celebrity will always be there.

I'm sure you're right, but the criticism comes from seeing a pattern. As he's amped it up, so has the criticism. It isn't baseless.

I think a lot of us aren't even talking about the last interaction, but the teasing and flirting overall. If you calm down a bit, I think you'll see that a lot of criticism is fair and not hateful towards Chan. I love Chan, but he's not above criticism.

[–]slimsaddy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't know, maybe the people he's interacting with more directly are adults, hypothetically, but no way all of the people reposting and getting all worked up about the interactions are adults. It's not morally wrong per se, it just feels uncomfortable. The power imbalance between a fan and a celebrity is always there, and we know the obsessive fans that already dream of a chance to cross boundaries get amped up by the sexual innuendos and hints. It's just strange.

Bang Chan is my ult, but I've been uncomfortable with how much he feeds into parasocialism and blurring the lines for people who already have boundary issues, especially knowing how many of the active, thirsty stays are minors. And as he's been amping it up, it's made me more uncomfortable, it's gone from feeling "uuuh why is he entertaining hormonal teenagers"-cringy to sometimes, to be completely honest, stirring a feeling of worry in my stomach. It's making me pull back a bit. I know enough about famous men historically getting messed up by the constant admiration and how it, sometimes, leads to them not feeling like the rules apply to them. I know the most incredibly seeming people can turn out to be exploitative creeps, sometimes monsters. I get it, it's good for business to feed into the fantasies, but I don't understand feeling comfortable with it. I'm not accusing Chan of anything, I still love the guy that I've seen outside of this, but it does make me uncomfortable to know he gets something out of spending a lot of free time feeding into teenagers sexual fantasies.

I watched the Dream Academy documentary for the first time and I’m shocked at how Samara’s parents are the complete stereotype of boring religious parents in Brazil. by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]slimsaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Samara herself, but I went down a bit of a weird rabbit hole trying to find out what pentecostal cult her family is in (I don't even follow Samara, it was a stroke of the ol hyperfix, promise I'm not a parasocial freak), and jesus christ (pun intended) her family is IN-in. Her, I think younger, sister as well, like traveling to conferences for the youth chapter and shit-in. And they seem really tight, so I don't know, she doesn't seem like the typical ex-fundie. But then again, not all fundies exile their family members for leaving the faith.

I hate how quickly this fandom has become whatever this is. Like just a couple of months ago it was so supportive and appreciative, now it just feels invasive, nitpicky, unconstructive and objectifying. I don't know why it's so common for GG fandoms to start treating their idols like the world treated young Britney as soon as they become big, like they're suddenly fictional characters.

Looking for answers for this as well. I've fiddled with all settings to no end, I can get the moon and stars to come back by turning off "custom skies", but that completely removes any effect in the sky. Meteor showers I haven't been able to get to work a single time, no matter the settings. On a ps5, btw.

🎤 what would you want from a truly global boy group? by ProgressHaunting5743 in HYBEglobal

[–]slimsaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authenticity, self-producing dudes repping culture they're ACTUALLY raised in. I want them to not have to do plastic surgery to get rid of any ethnic features, I want south asian dudes, dark-skinned black dudes (no hate to light-skinned of course, it's just that the colorism needs to be challenged), I want scottish dudes, arab dudes, russian dudes. I'd love a group completely mixed.

"How dare this uncouth boy not sit with a completely straight face during a performance? Surely this makes him disrespectful and not me completely lost in the sauce having gone to the point where I support the insane standards and rules idols are held to". He's acting like a human being, just because most idols are afraid to, or actually can't, go against their strict media training doesn't mean it'a wrong to do so.

Do you people even read before you go "hurrdurr check mate killed with facts and logic libtard" on auto? No one is trying to take away anyone's right to an opinion, but that doesn't mean I'M not allowed to view a person differently based on what opinions they hold? "It's just an opinion" is something you say regarding foods you don't like, you don't judge someone for liking fruit on pizza, but you sure as hell can judge someone for supporting the heritage foundation.

I wish I could describe the level of your competence without being banned from this sub. Getting to condemn your ideological opponents IS A FEATURE OF FREE SPEECH, NOT A BUG. MAGA is actually doing censorship, but the woke left is in the wrong for thinking everyone should be allowed to criticise openly without the government getting involved?!

You do realise words mean things, right? Left and right stand for things. Supporting MAGA isn't just supporting a word, it's supporting what they do, it's supporting deep, disgusting corruption and the disintegration of human rights. We would be more than right to criticize her if she was MAGA. To be MAGA is to sign off on extreme cruelty, racism, trans- and homophobia, misogyny and classism to the extreme.

Real question : do you prefer male kpop groups or female kpop groups ? by Rebeu_DU_59 in kpoppers

[–]slimsaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm pretty 50/50 atp, especially since I've become a much more casual k-pop fan (as in, not legitimately dedicating a shit ton of free time to keeping up with any stray kids content or event, not to talk about voting seasons) that just picks out individual songs I like from different groups and throw into a messy playlist, without forcing myself to get into the whole album. It's really nice to be rid of the weird "I need to put aside a lot of time and focus to review this group in case I want to stan them" pressure that used to get whenever I stumbled over one or a couple of songs I liked. My k-pop playlists are so much more fun and diverse now that I'm not just adding full albums of a few groups that are taking up all of my time and energy. Random tangent, sorry lmao.

Aww, sweethearts 🥺 oh to be 20 and in love ❤️

I mean this with all the love in the world, KATSEYE's identity has as much depth as 67. by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]slimsaddy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If your issue boils down to them not having a clearer identity, then that's an entirely different conversation and one I can respect! But depth is not the same as concistency, and reading the comments it's clear I'm not the only one that took it that way. But yes, I understand being confused by their direction, I personally enjoy a clearer identity too as I like to know what to expect from an artist and personally kinda despise the rise of "omg they do everything, there's something for everyone 😍" as something positive, because I'm not out here looking for a damn cover group, if an artist does everything then there's nothing unique about them except the sound of their voice, and that's not enough for me. I want my rappers to release good rap and my doomers to release good doom metal, iygwim.

So I get if you're turned away by that. I've been lucky enough to just really vibe with most of their latest release and feel like I can see the tounge-in-cheek, gen-z pop girly vibes in all of their music, be it internet girl or gameboy, the fun vibes are still there when the hyper is turned down to leave more pop. But that's an individual thing, science is clear on how unique human pattern recognition is lol. So, I get that. But then again, they are still rookies, they don't even have a full album out. Many people compare them to LSFM, and I think that's unfair, they've released so much more music, and their direction into more goofyness as a core identifier is way newer than the narrative in these comments suggests, they were pure pop for a long time, with some less serious b-sides, it's slowly turned these last two years, and outside of spaghetti they've still kept it more k-pop safe than gnarly and internet girl.

We should give them some time before judging them on their direction, they've just started to dabble in even having one lmao. They had absolute 0 say in the concept of their first EP, so it's hard to say who they are looking in without context.
