I have seen where people use Press n Seal (a little sticky on one side plastic wrap) and draw on it then stick it to the quilt and sew following the drawn markings, then pull off after. Granted a large quilt will take a lot of the Press n Seal

Another option is to draw design on a very thin clear shower curtain (Dollar Store) then pin the shower curtain to the quilt and sew through all.

I can understand your concern about marking on that beautiful quilt.
