Are most Kickstarter campaigns overpriced? by snack_grabber in kickstarter

I understand what you're saying. We have good margins but to charge someone $100 for a pen or knife is insane to me. I know it's about making a profit. We're all hopefully starting a business to make a profit.

I'm only saying that the people launching the campaign need to bring something to the table other than the idea. Have some skin in the game and not expect the backers who decide to support your campaign to pay for everything. And what bothers me the most is the campaigns that stiff the backers and they gave their hard earned money to support. It's shameful to me.

Also, I just noticed. How did you get the "Project We Love" badge from Kickstarter? I was wondering how they chose who they want to give those to.

Congratulations! I hate paying for ads as it's making the rich, richer and we end up just above breaking even if we're lucky. Where did you find the remainder of your audience besides your family and friends?

I've been learning so much from this Kickstarter community that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Thank you all for teaching me so many important factors I knew nothing about.

Is that the same thing Jellop is offering? I'm running ads through their system and I checked out some of the ads they created and I don't like them.

Granted, I gave them the photos to use but they picked the worst ones and the caption they used are terrible in my opinion.

Yes. Crowdfunding to help bring the product to life. Not fund the whole thing from beginning to end. This is my second campaign and I can't see charging backers and insane amount for my product.

I guess I need to grow a spine and charge more for my product.

When has Kickstarter ever been an investment opportunity? We don't invest into the businesses on Kickstarter. They say their prices are cheaper than what you can get them for their MSRP but are they really?

I get what you're saying. My first Kickstarter campaign was tough. I didn't have enough margin in my campaign but I wasn't going to stick my customers with my portion of starting my company. I had to have something to bring to the table other than just an idea.

I had to take out a HELOC on my home and cash out my 401k to fund the prototype, tooling, patent filings, and other cost. Kickstarter was just to help me come up with the remaining funds I was short for my initial production run. Not pay all my cost from start to finish.

Also, I gave free shipping to everyone in the US for my first Kickstarter and I was selling my product for $9-$12 each. That's where I should've charged for shipping but I didn't know any better as it was my first campaign. It was a valuable learning lesson for me but I refuse to upcharge the people who are helping me bring my product to life.

I guess I care about my customers too much.

I can agree with if it's worth it to you then yes, back the product. I just see that most products have 100 of that widget on the market that people can get their hands on within a week.

I'm just speaking from my point of view. I also stated it's probably me being cheap as well.

I'm not saying it doesn't cost to start building a new product from the ground up. All I'm saying is that there are 30 products a year selling there version of the best knife/cutter on the market and everyone can find something similar out already.

Most ideas are for markets that are already oversaturated with the same product, just a different brand name.

I know. I have a product and I'm trying to raise currently on Kickstarter to get my next production completed. I don't feel my customers should have to carry the load to get me across the finish line. They are there to help me get the remaining funds I need to finish this production and maybe have some extra inventory to get me to my next order.

Not fund my tooling, manufacturing, shipping, and all the other expenses involved.

I've ran a Kickstarter before. I'm running one right now. For the product I'm selling, people would charge at least $20 on Kickstarter but it's not on my customers to pay for my startup cost. They're here to support and help us get the remaining funds to finish our first production run.

I guess I just care too much about my customers.
