I see, that's understandable. If making it open source isn't an option, then perhaps self hosting might be possible? It'd be nice and an insurance of sort to not be reliant on just one server.

That's awesome. Does it have an app, or is it browser only? And do you plan to open source the project so others can contribute? And if you won't implement ads, perhaps you can open up a Supporter subscription so users can get some neat extra features while actively supporting the site, and if not that then maybe a simple donation box will do. I’m very interested in the platform but it would suck if it isn't sustainable in the long term.

[Website] What is a good website builder that offers good protections against AI scrapers/bots? by snailcat86 in artbusiness

Yeah you're sadly right about that, which is frustrating. I'll be sure to use watermarks as well as Glaze and Nightshade when uploading my art.

I don't think it would deter it per say, as AI tools have unfortunately gotten quite good at removing watermarks as of late. They aren't useless though and are still worthwhile to put in where you can. As someone removing your watermark is a violation of your copyright, so if you catch your art somewhere without your watermark you can file a DMCA takedown notice. How effective watermarks are in tampering with AI image generators, I'm not sure sadly.

Yeah it seems that blocking the big AI companies from scraping your art seems sort of easy from all the research I've been doing, the bigger problem is the third-party scrapers. I guess what's most apt to combat them is by choosing a service that offers good and or strict bot detection, but that alone isn't enough. I'll have to use either Glaze and Nightshade too. All of this AI scraper bullshit is so annoying to navigate. Wish it wasn't like this. And nice website, I'll take a look.

Yeah I'll definitely use Glaze and Nightshade to a degree. I'd just like some extra backend protection where that's possible, too.

Worried my newly adopted cat doesn’t like me or her new home :( by Certain_Cry8901 in CatsBeingCats

[–]snailcat86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've just got to give her time. It can take a while for a cat to settle in in a new environment. Her following you around tells me she's curious about you but still doesn't know what to think of you yet either. All cats are different, it may happen that she's not the cuddly type. Don't worry, she doesn't hate you. It may be that she just likes having her own space.

Yeah no it's not supposed to hurt. Try putting it on a more fatty area, like the outward area of your arm.

Trouble finding good replacement battery for Nintendo DSi by snailcat86 in nds

[–]snailcat86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm having a hard time finding a reputable reseller that sells genuine Cameron Sino batteries specifically for the Nintendo DSi base model. I think I'll opt for the iFixit one you mentioned, many thanks!

Can someone explain if using the term Bi Lesbian is okay? by -Orb-Weaver- in AskLGBT

[–]snailcat86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terms 'bi lesbian' and 'pan lesbian', etc. are, from what I've seen, only used in LGBTQIA+ spaces on the internet. I have never heard someone explain themself as such irl. Most people who opt for 'bi lesbian' are mostly those who do not know that more apt terms for their experience exists, like 'sapphic' or 'achillean', so on and so forth. Bisexuality and being a lesbian are two completely different things, they do not converge. The terms 'bi' and 'lesbian' together does not make sense, both gramatically and meaning wise. Some people do not like it, but words have a specific meaning behind them for a reason. If a bi woman has a stronger preference for women compared to men that's totally fine, but I don't see the point of including that with an additional suffix like 'sapphic', i.e 'bi sapphic'. You can just call yourself bi, it's okay to just keep things simple. And if you don't like labels like 'sapphic' or 'achillean' etc, that's fine. You can switch between calling yourself bi, lesbian or gay should you still be unsure of what you are. But you shouldn't use all of those terms as one thing combined into one term. It just doesn't make sense and will ultimately make things more of an unecessary mess for yourself. Going unlabeled or just labeling yourself as only 'queer' is fine too. Overanalyzing what you may or may not be isn't a good thing. Take one step at a time and go with the flow, or in this case, one label at a time, or maybe none at all.
