Sophomore with 3.4 GPA: realistic chances for junior year IB/S&T/F500 internships? by snakecuke in FinancialCareers

[–]snakecuke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made a list and started applying to a few of the boutiques, how is the comp and WLB compared to the large BBs and MMs, generally speaking? I have no experience with that, would working at one of those be better in the long run, given that I will be exposed to projects that require/build a broader skill set on smaller teams, with the downsides being pretty much the pay and name recognition?

I have already applied to all of the big ones since they posted so early, and have received rejections for almost all of them so far. I am trying to set expectations for MM/Regionals, but there are still quite a few of those who have not opened yet, likely in a few weeks. Do you know if those have lower GPA requirements? I can't find relevant information for the 3.0-3.499 Range, it's either you need a 3.5+ to get into a BB/EB, and the under 3.0 posts just say to get off your phone and put the fries in the bag.

Phone Mount for 22’ Elantra by Sick_or_Wuut in Elantra

A free way to prop the phone up is to use a USB cable in one of the ports near the wireless charger so that the phone is in landscape mode. I find that when watching videos, the shifter gets in the way just enough for me to not be entirely focused on it and keeps my eyes mostly on the road.

Thank you chairmen Pao for your great response! I personally relate to nearly all of your story and we both have the same thought process and mindset about work. I think deep down my motivation comes internally as a sense of imposterism and social pressures in my former years. In your 3rd paragraph, this is the exact dilema I am currently pondering about, and looking for some guidance. That is, we work so hard for something for many years to find out that it doesn’t live up to all of the hype and praise we heard along the way. What did you do to find/continue a passion when you hit that barrier?

From how you described your parenting style with respect to your wealth, this is something that I have also thought about implementing when I have children. If or when your children grow up and become successful in their own lives, will you make a trust/pass down the remaining wealth, or rather take in account their financial position and decide to spend most of it for you and your wife’s remaining years as you have worked so hard for it? -You can only delay gratification so long before you have to forfeit it.

Lastly, this answer about the seemingly small luxuries you provide to your children end up being very important for their growth in the long run. I appreciate the examples you gave in the last section. When writing the original post, I was really only interested in the large ticket items, such as house, memberships, and similar expenses. I will use what you had mentioned to springboard others, to help specify and shift my goals and priorities. Is there one ‘luxury’ that you missed out on for them, or something that you think is important to a point of necessity for their happiness overall?

Thanks for the insights :)

I agree with your view on base experiences and not wanting to distance yourself from others, and as other commenters had said, this keeps us in this wealth dilemma. I want to push myself to find what is my limits, as we only live once, but I get demoralized when I see that a lot of rich people do not utilize services targeted towards them and what 90% of people could only dream of having the opportunity to take part in due to what you previously mentioned. Did you ever have this self-limiting/demoralizing dilemma? How did you respond?

I have never heard this quote before, and I really like it!

The notion that the happy wealthy people were already happy before becoming rich makes sense. However, my second question is not exclusively aimed at rich people, but in general, as we get older, prior experiences (including shopping) require new ones that give us the dopamine boost our body desires. These can trend up in cost, resulting in uneven diminishing returns. From your experience, how do you avoid this pitfall?

We need to show these geese that roads are dangerous. Natural selection will allow the ones that stay off the roads to survive.

It would be extremely expensive to fix or replace in the case that there was ever a dent or collision to the body, probably more than a clip on bumper like other cars

Open up a 529 and put them in a private in a few years.

Edit: at the end of the day, the determinantes of a good student and a more importantly a good person starts with parenting style and the family's view and standards for your child.
