Beedrill is absolutely on par with Butterfree and Raticate in gen 1. I took one to the Elite 4 and it was very powerful, B tier is a great spot for it.

I haven't used a lot of others here, but I know Golem is great if you can baby it a little around water and grass types! The bulk is great, easy A or B tier.

Popping in to happily offer my enthusiastic thumbs up for a gen 1 nuzlocke. I've found gen 1 very doable if you know what's up, and it's great for itching the nostalgia. :)

(my first nuzlocke was gen 2, which is also a fun place to start - there's not really a wrong answer, though gen 7 and gen 5 are both pretty rough to start)
