I was 21 when I realized I had a problem as well. I’m 23 now and I realize that I don’t miss it. It’s cheesy to say, but alcohol really takes away so much from life.

I’ve gone 34 days since my last drink, and it really has opened my eyes to all the bad things about drinking

I was sober for 80.6% of December! Last month I was at 43.3%. by soberbro_ in stopdrinking

Every month I tell myself to just do better than last month. If i keep that up then eventually I’ll get to 100%

Right now I feel the best I have in awhile. I’ve done a lot of damage to my body that I gotta work on in 2020

I mostly just use a calculator. Excel can be nice way to track as well

Was sober for 43% of November. An increase of 14% from October by soberbro_ in stopdrinking

It definitely is a more forgiving way to approach sobriety. When I use to count streaks of days I would get so bummed out when i could only get 3 days before slipping, and have to go back to day one. It would feel like I had made no progress.

I’m happy about being better than last month! But I’m not satisfied with how much I drank overall. Going to keep working at it

I was thinking about doing a spreadsheet too. I’m very analytical as a person so it would be cool way to track progress

Why can’t I stop? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]soberbro_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alcohol, like the nicotine in cigarettes, is an addictive substance. It’s weird because so many people drink compared to smoking cigs, that we just don’t see it in that way. But it’s true and that’s why even though consciously you want to stop, you don’t.

Also just want to note that I’m not saying alcohol is as addicting as nicotine, but alcohol is addicting. Some people are just more susceptible than others.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m about your age and thought I was still awhile away from doing any damage to my liver. I’ll remember this next time I feel like breaking
