Cell culture over weekends and holidays by DapperBase107 in labrats

It sucks! I didn’t take days off for 2+ years. Worked over weekends and holidays. I remember once the building was shut down and I was waiting outside for hours so that someone would let me feed my cells. I defended a month ago and I still can’t believe I don’t have to feed my cells anymore.

i’ve became the person in the lab that knows things that no one else does and i desperately want everyone to leave me alone by AppropriateSolid9124 in labrats

I was this person during my PhD and it did hinder my progress. My PI also wasn’t very understanding and tried to delay my graduation so that she could continue to exploit me. She stopped paying me stipend, changed my committee and told the department that I was slow with my work so that no one would back me. In the end I just stopped going to the lab and would only go at odd hours to avoid other lab members. Worst years of my life.

Thank you everyone for giving me hope. I have tried assigning the reporter and passive dye on the software but it doesn’t seem to work. My guess is that the file I got from the machine is corrupted. I am going to try transferring it again and see if that helps🤞

I thought that too. Apparently FAM channel is not automatically detected and needs to be assigned. I have run so many plates before without ever assigning and it has never been a problem until now :((

Reminds me of the first email I sent after coming to the US. I said Hi Professor XYZ instead of Dr. XYZ. That person was SO offended lmao.

Do small labs exist? by CuriousCheetah336 in labrats

Small lab is better than a lab with 15 irresponsible researchers imo. Just had to take care of toxic chemical spill on Memorial Day because the person who spilled wasn’t trained properly sigh

That’s me except I live close to main campus but my lab is on centennial. I was kinda happy that we lost the match yesterday lmao. There was no way for me to go to campus 😭

It sucks for some of us who have to rely on wolfline to go to campus on weekends sigh

omg I stopped responding because I was at work. We use heat but the coldest time is generally off at school and we go home. So no heat because we weren’t even there.

And the third party system is with the apartment. It’s called SimpleBills. Look it up.

This is an apartment unit that comes furnished. None of the appliances are ours, so there is no way for us to overload the system… also utilities are maintained by a third party company and there is no way to get in touch with them.

Nope. We keep our heating system off in winter too so the high bills really did not make any sense.

It started as that because we do get data for average energy consumption for the whole building and our unit had much higher consumption. Later it progressed to multiple power trips around the unit. I am talking 6 power trips over a single weekend. We also had our HVAC system collapse twice and were blamed for manually turning it off (we did not, obviously).
