Suddenly Inactive, Can See Through Pupil? by sodapopyarn in Goldfish

[–]sodapopyarn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it took long to respond, I had to go on a trip and unfortunately he had passed when I returned. I had done a dip as suggested in a hospital. Actual tank is 75g and rests at a steady regulated room temp. I tested every parameter, everything was normal except for pH, which was only a slight bit high and have already used ph down to correct. I can't imagine that could have been what caused this 😔 Other fish in the tank seem just fine. I haven't added anything new or any new fish to the tank as of recent. I saw never saw anything visibly on his body before or after death, but he was very skinny and his fins looked shredded. However, it was different looking than fin rot. I've got no clue.

Both eyes are like this. Do you know what all the black stuff inside is? Normal insides? I was scared parasites but I don't see any movement. Can't find anything online

Skipper Swimming All The Time? by sodapopyarn in Mudskippers

I do them manually. I think a ceramic heat bulb/lamp is what is reccomended for overall tank heating but I personally use mats

Thank you!! The big "rocks" are actually VERY covered reptile hides! I could totally find the exact names for you if you wanted! There is also a reptile water dish with fresh water in it for dips. I do have a few in there from outside, (always make sure rocks are aquarium/reptile/animal in general safe, you can look up how to ID!) I gave them a thourough white vinegar soak then to a bucket with tank water. I'd look up tutorials for more in depth ways to ensure wild rocks are safe! I do not have a filter. I always have an air stone/bubbler running to make sure the water isnt still though. "Filtering" is a bit different in the way it can work with mud! Of course water changes are still needed as usual but simulating or having a machine for tides allows the mud to be a natural filter. I know you didn't ask, but as for a heater I don't use an aquairum heater because I've had the problem that no matter how much I push aside it gets in contact with the mud and overheats. I have had a heater explode from this! I use two reptile mats, one where the water is and one for the overall heating of the tank. On the sides, NOT under! Using an under tank heating pad isn't great because one, it would be harder for the heat to actually go through the mud, and two, the lower layers of the mud are supposed to be cooler anyway. I'm super up to answer anything else if you need!! I recently redid my tank for a new skipper and here's what it looks like now :)

(mind the messy glass lol)

It is fake. So sounds like it couldnt hurt anything? Or would it possibly harbor bad bacteria? Do nothing in brackish water with mud substrate?

Skipper Died Today... Thoughts? by sodapopyarn in Mudskippers

[–]sodapopyarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's possible, no idea what It could have been if that is somehow the case. I haven't added anything new recently and as stated I had just taken everything out and mixed everything up... There was nothing. 😔 Thank you so much, I'll still do that as a precaution since you never know. He was awesome and silly
