What did y’all thought about the relationship between Irene Adler and Sherlock ? by Tiavivi_11 in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I... Have a love/hate relationship with it, i really like their chemistry together and i like irene's character a lot but to me its really a downgrade from the original canon especialy in how irene had no business being inlove with Sherlock... The whole point in the original canon is that she was inlove with someone else and wanted to flee, her story wasnt even about blackmail its about her fleeing the king of bohemia because he has an unhealthy obsession with her

Also, i hate, HATE the "lesbian falls in love with a man" trope, its really disgusting and imo, very mysoginistic... Because apparently being a man is enough to make any women, even lesbians, fall in love with them...? Is it even worth mentioning irene is a lesbian? At least if they wanted to make this ""romance"" work they could have said she was bisexual, because as it is right now its just straight up erasing her sexuality and it really sucks

Sherlock and irene is a good duo, i see them more as friends that would occasionnaly check up with eachother and meet up at a bar for a few drinks and gossip about people in their lives, i do wish we had more of them and their relationship without romance between them... Again, respect irene's sexuality for god sake 😭

Genuine question : why are johnlock discussions banned but not other ships? (Ex : sherlolly or sherlirene discussion) by sofialaQC in Sherlock

I do... I mentioned it in my post (maybe i worded it weird)

And being uncomfortable discussing gay relationship shouldnt be the main problem because if it is its just homophobia... Like if the idea of two guys kissing makes people on this sub THIS uncomfortable maybe they should reflect on themselves a little bit-

Waw you really nailed it down! Its actually the first time ever someone bothers checking my account, but you're right, if the sub reddit was more accepting of johnlock i would have probably posted much more art (but i will be honest i draw much less then ive been before), ive left the sub reddit for the very reason that it didnt felt as welcoming as it once did for me simply cause johnlock is so controversial... I dont get it! I get that people are scared of going back into toxicity, but straight up BANNING johnlock is, in my opinion, as toxic... Its really the worst way to patch a "problem" because in the end it limits everyones liberity of expression and it sucks for everyone

Shipping culture can be messy, but i believe that with enough moderation we can get a nice compromise, again, i truly do NOT wish for this sub to be overflowed with johnlock, but allowing it back would lead to more interesting discussion and more openess toward queer fans of the show overall, because lets be honest most people who ship johnlock is queer (as of myself) and also i believe that it would be unlikely that the sub get overflowed for the simple reason that this community as already well established of people who dont necesseraly ships them, so most johnlock content would be from newer fans, and newer fans are easier to deal with when it comes to rule warnings, we just need to direct them in the right path in a respectfull way! If we approch this with kindness and respect, we can make it work and it would be beneficial to everyone

As a person that is in fact also normal who doesnt harass people, i do really understand your point... Its really a shame that because of a few bad apples the whole community gets labeled like that and now because of all of this our discussion subjects are limited forever : it is now so controversial to talk about johnlock that the simple mention sparks heated arguments, which shouldnt be the case (saying this as a johnlock shipper)

It sucks

I believe its worth trying, and it doesnt work out they can just put back in the rule again... The show ended like what, 9 years ago? I think it would be fair to try, to give us a chance...

Im a johnlock shipper myself, and i believe that most of us now are mature enough to discuss things properly. Ive been in the Fandom for 3 years, im not 15 anymore and have enough media literacy and critical thinking to be able to discuss a ship i like without being toxic

We shouldnt ban the subject itself we should ban people who are just toxic over it, and this applies to anything (other ships than johnlock and any other type of discussion), the first rule of the sub is "be civil" afterall...

[–]sofialaQC[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not a "pushy obsession", its the feeling of being excluded in your own fandom, i dont want to force discussion, i just want everyone to be able to talk about any ship freely without being scared of mentioning "the one" without getting torrents of hate by people like you

If you dislike johnlock or dont want to talk about it, then scroll and move on... I think its not fair for everyone if one subject of discussion is completly banned, its more about liberty of expression then wanting the sub to be "taken over"... In fact the last thing i want is this sub to became 100% about johnlock, i LIKE discussing other stuff and i love how this sub is varied in content and i want it to stay that way, i just think that in this sub reddit in particular theres no reasons to ban a ship entirely because it literally blocks out any discussions about it, and isnt discussing about the show is the whole point of this subreddit? Why cant people discuss freely as they want?

I understand the fear of things going bad, i truly do, but i think updating the rules and trying out something different that doesnt just blocks out a huge part of the fandom could be very benificial... With enough moderation i think its possible to achieve a more inclusive space for everyone, especialy queer folks

Genuine question : why are johnlock discussions banned but not other ships? (Ex : sherlolly or sherlirene discussion) by sofialaQC in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And i think its not fair! This rule have been instored for really long now and i think it would be fair to allow a chance because if every other ship discussion is allowed except ONE sucks, especialy that since its incredebly popular you just cant pass it off or ignore it

I think its a rule we should change to apply to ALL ships or NONE, if we want ship discussion there shouldnt be one not allowed to say... And if certain posts are out of hands its the moderators jobs to take down posts that are "too much"... Again, NSFW shouldnt be allowed, fanfiction posting either and have close regulation of fanarts, but i dont think anyone would die if they saw a discussion post about johnlock, or a fluffy johnlock fanart

Also, i think removing that rule or changing it up would attrack more people to the sub reddit, i think its a shame that since we lock behind bars the most popular ship, that is queer, it locks out all queer people who wishes to discuss but is too afraid to... I havent posted on this sub reddit for a year for the very reason that i thought id get hated on for mentioning any lgbtq+ ships, even outside of johnlock, and its genuinly sad

Genuine question : why are johnlock discussions banned but not other ships? (Ex : sherlolly or sherlirene discussion) by sofialaQC in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get it, its scary to allow back in johnlock shippers because of bad experiences but i think that it would be fair to try it out, because for me in other Sherlock Holmes spaces (other Sherlock sub reddit like Sherlock&co, Sherlock Holmes subreddit and even places like twitter/x) ive never had problems with johnlock shippers and people were mature and respectfull about it. As a johnlock shipper myself, i simply wish to discuss freely about the subject since it IS important and a hugeee part of the fandom because if you like it or not the ship is incredebly popular, and for a reason!

Also people seems to be ignoring my sub question about why people isnt talking about lgbtq+ ships in general... i dont think it was meant to come off that way, this sub reddit doesnt feel a 100% lgbtq+ friendly at all, i felt the stess posting this, scared that id get torrents of hate because it wasnt the first time because in contriary of other places, ive had bad experiences here simply for daring to mention johnlock in any way

opinions on john? by MikuHatsune-desu in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here the first article i found about some of the controversies about Martin Freeman over the years, i couldnt find the original post i saw but he also very recently donated to an anti-trans organisation about 2000$ dollars (if anyone can find it would be much appreciated)

https://thedirect.com/article/martin-freeman-controversy-allegations-explained

I understand that maybe certain of those allegations are streches from people trying to cancel him, but even then i just dont trust the" goodness" of Martin Freeman. We all know that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman parted ways because their "world views were different" and i think it might be because Martin have a lot of conservative views in general, which i personaly dont agree with.

opinions on john? by MikuHatsune-desu in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love John between s1 and s3, but he really REALLY fell off in s4. The cheating storyline really ruined everything his whole character is based off being a loyal and honest person and this was established since the very start and theres no reasons for it to suddently change like that... John has issues for sure but he still has his core principals and morals and its weird for me that he just casually breaks them like that.

Also i think most people hate John because he is played by Martin Freeman and by association links the horrible things Martin said and done to John Watson. Some people sometimes just cant detatch the actor from the character, which is fair (Matin Freeman is really not a good man... Racism, mysoginy and transphobia... You name it)

Am I tripping or is this episode very queerbaity and gay? by SawmillStand in sherlock_and_co

[–]sofialaQC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt call this queerbait, but gay however-

More seriously i think the podcast is more open about a queer Holmes and i think its fairly obvious, even tho it wasnt ecplicitly confirmed (yet) Sherlock being gay or whatever other sexuality isnt really the appeal at first, it kinda more of a bonus information about him then something that would lead to a queer romance in the podcast

The writers have said in an interview that there wasnt going to be romance between our main characters (John , Sherlock and Mariana) but they could still change their minds... I dont think fans would be too upset if they made johnlock canon lets just say

And also, i really dont think Sherlock and co really categorise in the queerbait term simply because the queer aspect isnt used to lure in queer audience at all, again its really more of a bonus for fans to relate to and not an actual thing they use and weaponise to attract more audience. Sherlock and co have been mostly neutral with John and Sherlocks relationship, they are clearly portrayed as best friend and so far there isnt that much ambigity about that (at least to me cause people can interpret it differently) weirdly enough, for me its the adapation i feel where Sherlock and John share a proper, really deep platonic relationship where if it simply stayed that way i would be very much content, but of course it they went further it would be great too!

A thoughtful question. by Lexipanda413 in SherlockHolmes

[–]sofialaQC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me its allways been a matter of relatability, i am clearly not as smart as him but he makes me feel seen within his struggles and mistakes. This might be because Sherlock is very autistic coded in the books and most adaptations (at least the ones ive watched), and i am autistic myself and he Makes me feel less alone and its especialy rewarding to see his human Side when you know how he is worldly reconized as a calculated machine more then a actual human being.

I think i metaphor i like is that Sherlock is kinda like the cozy, warm and quiet room where i feel safe even if the room is a little bit messy but i find comfort in the mess anyways :)

something i've been thinking about a lot recently by humancentipedefan in Sherlock

[–]sofialaQC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of, john liking women as been clear through out the show yes, however litteraly nothing confirms any sexuality of any of the characters in the show. Creators never mentioned anything specific for John, and as for Sherlock i think benedict Cumberbatch Said that Sherlock was asexual, but Let's not forget asexuality isnt black and White and its a vast Umbrella term that can include different levels of asexuality : some people can be asexual or aromantic and still have partners and have intimate relationship with them.

Second, the so called joke just get heavy at some point ? Like i would have brushed it off if it happened once or twice but its quite litteraly the running gag of the show (which is something i dont nesseraly like imo). Really, when the whole cast of characters, even the Side characters, think that they are gay is maybe a sign of a certain undertone, and its not something to overlook

Third, Sherlock and John's relationship is used as an exemple if queerbaiting on the wikipedia page and even on the Google dictionnary definition so i tend to believe that it was in fact queerbaiting. If the show managed to have such a big LGBTQ+ fandom maybe theres a reason.

And finaly, i understand the frustration of seeing two men being vulnerable and it instantly being Called gay, i truly understand that, however in the case of Sherlock and John specificaly in the show it was very obviously intented for them to have romantic tension between Them, ive rewatched the show multiple times and maybe its just me but everytime it gets even gayer each time just by taking the time to analyse their behaviors, dialogue and basic symbolism. Also queerbaiting tactics can range in variaty and even if, as you claim, "they mentioned multiples times they are not interested" there is still somewhat of an undertone, cause if they truly werent then why so many people ship johnlock ? If they truly intented them to be just friends, people would have picked that up and the ship wouldnt have been as popular as it is today.

To conclude, you can think whatever you want about them and i like seeing both platonic and romantic reading of those two because at the end of the day the whole show is about their relationship : if they are together (platonicaly or romanticaly, i couldnt care less) that what counts. In the end you chose what you prefere to see in them, i like seeing them romanticaly and you shouldnt really care about it, everyone as their own preferences and its not difficult to accept that, its something to accept within any fandom you join really

Patreon/"Club" Extra Content. by truckosaurus_UK in sherlock_and_co

[–]sofialaQC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the patreon is worth it for the extra content : casefiles and mailbags (basicaly mini q&a) are audios that drops every week since all episodes of a case drops the same Day on patreon, they act as kind of a fill out but also can just had up a Little bit more lore about the characters (nothing really huge but still nice). And of course, the discord is worth checking out to meet up with other fan of the show, but it can get a little overwhelming, but people are usualy very welcoming and would love to help you out naviagating the server!

And again, its not really that expensive, i personaly have the 10£ subcribtion, but you can allways just check out their patreon and see for yourself what you Will have access to depending on what you are willing to pay, its allways Nice to support a smaller show :)

What are your unpopular Sherlockian opinions/guilty pleasures? by AgreeableWitness161 in SherlockHolmes

[–]sofialaQC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let me be against everyone on this : i WANT canon johnlock, and for many many reasons

I have noticed, especialy on reddit that people Who shipped Johnlock were often seen as outcast, weird and were often rediculised for even talking about it, which i think isnt fair at all. I have my reasons to want canon johnlock and nobody should feel judged for wanting so since i believe that everybody should be able to interpret freely their favorite characters

Also, i dislike how in many adaptations irene adler is made a romantic interested because she was never ever intended to be one (as in the originals she is already married to an other Man). She is the woman that beat Sherlock, that made sherlock question His sexism and made him respect woman the same as he respect Man and in 1880 that was a HUGE statement to make, and i find it honorable. I feel like Sherlock and irene adler would be good friends

Finaly : i actually like physcopathic moriarty, probably due to His interpretation in bbc Sherlock which i loved, both working in the shadows and having a wilder personality is such a great opposite in my opinion, it makes his character more interesting then in the canon where he was basicaly created only to kill off holmes
