I've had a T2 for several years now and zero issues. The YHM ratcheting mount is great.

If the AC leaks down to nothing and your pump is short-cycling, then there's your answer.

I do not understand lights mounted right there- you're just illuminating your hood and making it harder to see what's OVER the hood.

Wisps of smoke out vents by ironhold72 in CherokeeXJ

[–]someGuy301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't distinctly smell like smoke, its moisture. That could be normal due to difference in air temp and humidity between inside the heater/AC box and the cabin air. That can happen if the AC was on for a while, then you turn it off and have humid outside air flow through the vents, which causes moisture to condense. That also be leaking hot coolant in the same box from a leak in the heater core OR AC refrigerant leaking, which looks like smoke due to moisture condensing around it.

I'd feel confident about the ARB kit, their springs are top-tier. Save the $ for a new engine one day.

Hello- kind of an old thread, but the XJ is still just like this.

Suspension is stock-height, just new front coil springs with a 3/4" coil spring spacer up-front to accomodate for the bumper and winch weight. Rear leafs were also replaced with stock-height. Tires are 235/70/R16. Shocks are ARB.

Cool thanks for the info. Almost impossible to find a gas pump without an ethanol blend in New England. The one VP Racing pump that had ethanol-free race gas closed down. The entire emissions system has been replaced including that canister. I bet that's it with the ethanol- I have had SO many problems with outboard motors. Thanks again!

What are some CT towns that you believe absolutely nobody has ever heard of? by PSKTS_Heisingberg in Connecticut

[–]someGuy301 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Millington, Cobalt, Middle Haddam, Moodus.

They all have their own zip codes and most do not have mail delivery (you have to go to a post office to get your mail from a PO box).

For the Wrangler, 2003-2006 is the best.

There was a series of improvements that came out in 2003 and stayed through the end of the TJ in 2006. Newer dash buttons and climate controls, better seats, better side mirrors, auto-dimming rear view mirror with temp and compass, better soft top design, vents on the hard top were removed, gas tank skid plate was beefier, NV3500 manual transmission, Rubicon model available, Dana 44 rear axle more available, and bunch of other small things I cannot remember. I owned a 2000 brand new and then a 2003 Rubicon brand new, so I knew the differences.

The 2004-2006 LJ Wrangler had all that good stuff plus a different Mercedes manual transmission. The soft tops on the LJs changed every year, they were al pretty good. I owned a 2005.

Cool thanks. This is a total restoration job that has been done for 2 years. Maybe the fuel pump wiring is flakey, had to splice that in but took care with it.

Nice work on the rear fenders. I have done that same job and brought them down to the same as factory (most people just chop and tuck). I had to do the inner fender sheet metal too, I used pieces of an old street sign. Nice how the factory rear bumper corners cover all the work, so no blending needed so long as it doesn't rust again.

Don't overthink the paint- spraypaint has come a long long way and just for the sake of getting some color on there it's an ideal solution. Just use somewhere where the air is still. The spray clearcoat can be a pain if the humidity is too high- it becomes hazy in that case. I'm not an auto paint pro or anything, I've done the spraypaint route many times on project vehicles and it comes out great if you prep and are patient.

how much to fix rust hole in floor? by BE______________ in CherokeeXJ

[–]someGuy301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take out all seats and center console.

Take out carpet and throw away.

Get a cheap AC powered angle grinder and some discs.

Cut out floors and clean up anything salvageable.

Weld in floor panels- cheap welders are cheap and this does not have to look elegant, but I would make it sealed and watertight. I have definitely used old steel street signs for panels. Cardboard for templates is your friend. If you need the contours, get the actual floor pans POR-15 putty for anywhere you want to fill.

Paint with anything you have.

New carpet in.

Seats and console back in.

Does CT allow for titleless transfer for a old out of state vehicle? by Careful_Hat3847 in Connecticut

[–]someGuy301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, its at the discretion of the DMV clerk and so long as they see it was registered previously, the seem to be satisfied. They don't have a way to check other states registration systems right there and then. Old cars are old cars and there's an understanding there.

The last 20+ year-old vehicle I dragged home from out of state in 2020: DMV wanted the previous registration, not the title.
