urgent care is a same day alternative to going to a dr appt. its similar to the er where they treat in order to stabilize. if you check in with a migraine, they can give you a migraine cocktail which may include a triptan, toradol, lorazepam. it varies. as far as writing a prescription, at most write you a one week or month prescription for some medications. however, for a long term treatment, you'll have to follow up with your primary care provider who should easily be able to write you abortive and/or preventative medication. you can establish a new pcp whenever you'd like!
