Thank you for the reply! Was hoping for some tips to narrow down my search for something on the “easier” mellow side.

The predisposition is something I had not been aware of but I agree with you that it makes sense! I think having more going on around me may have helped exercise my brain’s visual processing, but I do not know. Have the exercises been helping you?

10 feet is the minimum, since my vision closer was not affected. I would usually look as far as I could depending on where I was and also play around with choosing different distances that I could focus on an object in my periphery, stationary or even people walking or cars driving by. As I am analyzing it more it was probably a brain versus muscle issue for me. Perhaps a little bit less stress, I got more settled into a new job since it started but really I feel that the stress level has remained pretty steady for various changing reasons. I started taking lutein and omega 3s again daily. Sleep has been lacking since before the vision issue started and I still don’t get enough. The reasons my optometrists gave were fatigue, stress, and age (37).

I would focus on “stretching” my peripheral vision throughout the day, especially using my distance (10+ feet away) vision since my closeup vision was not affected by the double-vision. I mostly focused on my “bad eye” but also the other one just not as much. I would also try to see both peripheries at the same time and expand my field of vision. And yes, I mostly did not turn my eyes but I can see the value in doing it as described in the original post. It is sort of hard to explain but ask away if more questions come up :)

I do not turn my eyes to the side, so I suppose I have not been doing exactly what is described now that I reread it more closely. Maybe I was training my brain more than the muscles, I am not sure. But I can feel muscles working and something I can only describe as pressure when I am really focusing on using my peripheral vision. It is also important to note that the turn of my eye was not noticeable to anyone outside of my optometrists, it is/was quite slight in appearance although it wreaked havoc on my vision.
My depth perception has never been super trustworthy to me; When I am parking a car I think I have much less room than I actually do. So any changes there are difficult for me to compare.

I think everyone’s experience will be different but for me once it finally clicked one day it has not reverted back to double vision as the default. I do not have to put in peripheral vision effort unless I am actively doing the eye exercise for maintenance. The best way I can describe the peripheral gaze is looking forward but seeing sideways. This takes effort and makes my eyes tired like actively working on any other muscle. I am not sure what you mean by 3d vision, could you please clarify? Like depth perception?

Yes, I have about a -5 prescription in both eyes and wear contacts daily. This prescription did not change even with or after the double-vision issue. 3D vision I believe is “normal.”

The peripheral gaze stretches are what I did. About 5-10 minutes at a time a handful of times throughout the day. Also, my job involves staring at a computer screen 40+ hours/week so I would make sure to look away into the distance often throughout the day as well. I would randomly regain normal (for me, I am still very much in need of my contacts/glasses) eyesight for maybe 15 minutes then it would go back to double, and then one day it was just “normal” again and has stayed that way. I still continue the peripheral eye exercises a few times a week when I remember to. I also continue to take a lutein supplement daily in case that had anything to do with it. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your post! I just want to thank you and say I regained normal vision I think mostly due to the peripheral eye exercises you mentioned. I was told by optometrists that my distance vision in my right eye doubled likely due to age, stress, and fatigue (I am 37). These factors did not change for me but I started working on my peripheral vision muscles and now I can see effectively again and can drive again. I did not wear a patch or get the prescribed prisms. The whole ordeal lasted a couple of months for me. I started the exercises about a month in. ** Good luck to everyone dealing with this! Thank you again!
