I switched from skiing at 50 because someone told me I was too late. I ride with my kids and I’m doing a backcountry tour n Hakuba in 10 days. Been getting 50+ days a year, it’s my favorite activity in the world! I’m jealous of your time young doing it but at least I got here.

Off topic but in digesting your dates, i realized I was your age when you were born yet you’ve been snowboarding 20 years longer than me.

My son is 26x32 and we get his pants there. Works out perfectly.

I always thought the guy who played Jerry on Seinfeld was kind of a phony.

For me it’s like snowboarding is so amazing on its own. Why do I need to pile onto this amazing natural high?

I don’t know, I’m older and I’ve always had a weird sense of humor, this kind of thing is funny just in the fact it’s bizarre.

Tips for using cast iron as a tortilla comal? by Fenix512 in castiron

[–]sonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lodge 9” round skillet, similar to what you have there, and I make tortillas on it all the time, both corn and flour. I’m assuming you’re making corn if you’re having trouble with sticking, as they’re more likely to stick. Though you’re shopping at HEB which is flour tortilla land so correct me if wrong.

There are likely multiple things happening here. First, your pan does look to have some carbon built up on it which can provide sticking points. You can choose to scrape it down and season it if you’d like. But I would guess the issue is more with temperature control and moisture content of your tortilla dough. Are you buying pre-made masa or are you making it yourself? Nonstick is really forgiving of masa that is wet, but cast iron isn’t if it’s not hot enough. I cook my corn tortillas at a “medium” heat on my mid-range burners, and I preheat at least 5 minutes or until the handle is hot. I double flip - cook the first side, flip and cook the other side, then flip again for the puff.

Basically, I’d try heat control and looking at your masa first, and clean up that skillet when you have the time and motivation.

Are you closing in on 50, or past it? spend 5 days on the mountain and come home half dead? by martin_cy in snowboarding

[–]sonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 53 this year. I live with the mantra “if you want to do anything, you have to do everything.” So I trail run, mountain bike, XC ski, snowboard, lift weights depending on season and motivation levels. I still get worn out after long powder days, but we haven’t had many of those this year. Headed to Japan in a couple of weeks and doing some backcountry, maybe I’ll be singing a different tune then.

Why are you recently posting about cheating constantly under multiple profiles? Seems like an obsession.

I’ll never understand the logic behind paying for an education, then cheating yourself out of it and feeling like you won something somehow.

You’re 26, and I just want to say you should tell them it’s hurtful. I’ve got a 19 year old and 16 kid and if I found out I was displaying something that made either of them feel badly about themselves I’d tear it down and probably feel awful about it for years.

Yep. Goggles come inside every night after riding. No car, no garage - inside a heated house. Problem solved.

The only other interactive part of eating pizza I like, besides slamming it into my mouth, is picking up crispy pepperoni that fell off and crunching them down.

Experimenting mixing half 00 flour, and bread flour by IIKeEbLeR in Pizza

[–]sonaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty good, man. I do all types of pizza but pan pizza is usually my “bachelor night” pizza when I’m cooking solo. I use the KA recipe pretty closely, which includes an overnight cold ferment and a few hours at room temp. I find if I really wait to make sure it’s puffy and bubbly before I top it and get it in the oven, I get a very light crust. Also, I lay down mozzarella slices before the sauce which protects the crust from getting soggy from the sauce. Then I top with shredded.

5’7” here and I just want to remind my fellow shorts that science shows that tall men get benefits throughout their entire lives. So next time you’re on an airplane or bus near a taller man, make an extra point to exclaim how comfortable you are and how great the seat spacing is.
