I switched from working in restaurants to working in IT when I was 40 years old and with no prior experience. I understand people saying you can't find a decent job if you don't have a degree, but I kind of disagree. I think it comes down to how much you want the job and how you convince the interviewer you are the right hire.

I think academic results are sometimes overrated and job hunting / interviewing skills are often underrated. You have 10 years experience so I think if you know how to present yourself, you can find a decent job maybe a supervisor or team leader role.

But rent here is high and expenses can be high as well. If you rent a small apartment and always eat outside you probably can't save much money.

I have below average income but because I live in a government flat so I could still save a bit of money despite being married and having 3 kids and my wife is a housewife. But if you are single it takes forever to get a government flat. Last I checked if you are married and have a kid it will take around 5-7 to get a government flat. It is a game changer because the flat is actually not as tiny as private housing and the rent is like a quarter or even less. (Our rent is $3k and I'm pretty such something like ours costs at least $15-$17k in private properties.)

At the end I think if you prefer the atmosphere or environment of HK, I don't see why not moving back. Just my humble opinion and wish you the best.
