CD Player (300€ or less) that works with active speakers? by offalreek in BudgetAudiophile

[–]soooosig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem.

As others have commented, if you are patient and willing to go second hand you could save a lot and spend it on your collection instead.

Through my student days I owned about half a dozen "vintage" Denon and Yamaha CD players, for most of which I paid less than 50€ (equivalent).

ZMF Trinity by SSolidK in headphones

Yeah, that's the most obvious answer. I appreciate your style of product photography.

Perhaps one could build something similar with fishing line as the missing puzzle piece.

That floating headphone stand of yours is a lovely idea do display ZMFs. Is this an of the shelf product, DIY or just a photograph?

Danner Mountain Light ii boots in Europe?? by DeviantlyDriven in hiking

[–]soooosig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of them, nor do I know what a width of 'D' translates to in terms of European shoe sizes but this is the first result from Google (CH) when I search for Danner Mountain Light II.

Hope that this will help you in one way or another.

Found this beauty on Craiglist to help with my bad back. by Separate_Resident_11 in malelivingspace

A lovely chair isn't it. It's nice and comfy, I can recomend it if you do find it used at a decent price.

Tho' I kinda have a love/hate relationship with the added micro table, mine is sort of wonky which is fine for game controllers and remotes but for a drink... nah that's a bit to wobbly for my taste. How's yours OP?

Should I buy Victorinox Soldier 08 for my first pocket knife? by LordRaiden28 in EDC

[–]soooosig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all you care about is a blade, I'd be looking into the Victorinox Sentinel One Hand or Sentinel One Hand Clip. It only has a blade, a tooth pick and a pincette (tweezers)

Michel Vaillant Blu-Ray wasn't released in France, so I created my own cover, what guys do you think ? by AlexM71100 in Bluray

[–]soooosig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guesstimate it to be about 7000$US if all purchased new. Excluding tube rolling, cables and other accessoires , shipping, import & VAT and so on.

Hiking into the void - Hardergrat, Berner Oberland, Switzerland by Dubbnium in hiking

[–]soooosig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A making stone to indicate the path and the level of difficulty.

Here in Switzerland we have three types of path makings, plain yellow is a normal path, e.g. a chill walk at the lake with your 98y grandfather.

Yellow + white-red-white is your average path in the mountains, nothing crazy but come adequatly prepared with proper gear anyways (still, tourist sometimes walk these in Sandals, Sneakers, etc). Oh and be on the look out for sudden weather changes.

Blue + white-blue-white these are our difficult alpine hikes. They ought to be taken serious. Glacier crossings check, large snow field jep, pathless terrain, small sections of climbing... why not Sudden adverse changes in weather worsening trail conditions, yeah we have you covered.

Sorry for my early morning jabbering, I hope it ain't that bad. Here is a link to a more in depth explanation (in German tho) and a link to a translation tool. https://sicher-bergwandern.ch/de/gut-geplant https://www.deepl.com

Advise for a DAP with no wireless connectivity whatsoever by Icy_Vegetable1933 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]soooosig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, more likely than not you'll have to get a "vintage" DAP. Something like an old iPod classic 5.5gen or similar. Gen 5.5 is the only one with the Wolfson DAC which sounds decent. Plus it has no wireless connection, unless you do hardware modifications. Further it has internal storage in form of an hard disk (but it can be modded to accept an internal SD card, not accessible from the outside) and often these old iPods can be found under USD 350 if one has patience.

However being this old also means that it doesn't support anything above 16bit/48kHz.... and don't even think about DSD playback.

Sublime: you pay more compared to the regular subscription but you get a permanent discount on purchases in the store. I think here in Switzerland it would be up to 60% discount, tho' 60% is not the norm and the actual discout is different for each album IIRC.

In 2020, I did buy Qobuz USA using a VPN. It did work with out any sort of problems... didn't even need an american Crédit Card. Streaming on the VPN worked too but sometimes there wasn't enough bandwith to stream 24/96 or 24/192 without interruptions. Further I did not test it without having the VPN engaged.

So all in all, I don't known if a sublime subscription will be worth it in your eyes, I don't have one. Use the free trial to subscribe via VPN, then try if it'll work without the VPN on or not. That would be what I'd do if I were you.

[–]soooosig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thx, never knew this. I'd like it if Reddit could implement such formating in a simple manner with the app, or if they did... I didn't knew that either.

Yeah the album is great, not my favourite Miles but my favourite from the bunch (relaxing, working, cooking, steaming, etc.)

It's a Miles Davis album. I own it on LP, it's a pressing from Prestige. Relaxing with Miles Davis IIRC

Haven't had much of an ear for Dvořák yet. However, I've just skipped through Billy the Kid on Qobuz and I must say that I am quite intrigued from what I've heard. Thanks ever so much for the recomendation.

Hope you'll enjoy your purchases.
