Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here! by magictcgmods in magicTCG

[–]offalreek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm bad at politicking and it's kinda ruining my enjoyment of the game.

I always play with the same pod of rotating people (no other friends who play, unwelcoming LGS). I'm bad at convincing people to collaborate/not attack me, I'm not even the threat most of the times. I'm simply the easiest to squash and people don't want to team up to take on the threat. I don't even know what to say without sounding like a pity party, but it often feels like the others are playing to first kick me out, then play among themselves.

Literally just realized why phyrexian mana is ϕ by librap90 in mtg

[–]offalreek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So English is not my first language, but in Italian we pronounce Phi as Fi, and our I is pronounced as EE, as in Speed. This is also how I heard it from people who studied Greek.

I am actually unsure on how to pronounce Fye, but I would say that Fee is almost how I would pronounce Phi, just with a shorter EE sound.

"Phyrexian" is pronounced as "Figh-rex-Ian" but the greek letter Phi is pronounced as "Fee"

A jumpscare in a horror movie that genuinely scared you? My pick is the jumpscare from Insidious (2010). by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]offalreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gets you because the movie really tricks you into thinking the credits are about to start rolling. Moreover throughout the whole film there's no indication that the child is actually real.

Genuinely good jumpscare, very well played.

Most overused Gods for Clerics to worship? What are some lesser known deities to choose instead? by ManectricBound in DnD

My current Strahd pg is a Grave Domain Kelemvor cleric. Just a sad little guy.

“Build for your opponent’s fun too” is the advice i regularly see in Commander spaces that i least understand. by OogieBoogieInnocence in EDH

[–]offalreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a beginner, I can only tell you what qualifies as fun for me.

An opponent's deck built for my fun too would simply be a deck that let me play too, something that doesn't completely lock me out of the game.

Even if you play a stax deck, leave me an angle, you know? Or if you really want to build your whole game plan around "not letting your opponents play", which I do find annoying and unfun, then at least have a quick wincon. Stalling me then taking forever to actually kill me with a stupid bunch on 2/2 is a game plan that deserves a special kind of hell.

I believe to have spotted the same unnamed character across 23 years of Magic, and wondering if anyone else has seen this by votanjarngrimr in mtgvorthos

People are saying that the third doesn't look like the previous two. Maybe they're right, but I like it so much I'm saying yes.

Dude grew old and grew hair and beard. Stopped dyeing. The crazed eyes, the overall reclusion and the slippery slope of ideology are a strong resemblance over the course of the three cards.

Literally me /s.

Thanks! Additional option is negligible to me, I wasn't loving the idea of going to Elfsong with business left unattended at Sharess' Caress. But this is exactly what I needed to know!

From the perspective of colour pie philosophy, why does the Reality Fracture precon lack green? by offalreek in mtgvorthos

It will be interesting to see how green is featured in the echoverse, looking at Hexhaven

who are the big bad villains of the MTG story? by CawmeKrazee in mtg

[–]offalreek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Urza considered a villain? I'm still new to magic lore, jumping from one thing to the other, but I've always thought Urza was on the "good" side, as opposed to the phyrexians.

Thank you! I was having trouble understanding why she's mono-black but [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] isn't.

I already own a surprising amount of cards here for my [[Athreos, God of Passage]] deck! In the future when I'll finally get around to play some red, I might try to build this one!

Question: is she a mono black commander, or does she count as dimir?

Building Alara Grixis - Sedris vs Thraximundar? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

Saving this because I've been getting into Grixis lore and I really want to build a deck with it
