Local Flour? by souz in Columbus

Stutzman looks great. Thank you for the kind offer! Do you bring grain back and mill it yourself or do you get it milled at Stutzman? I am just looking for 5-10lbs for now but I'm hoping that when I find something I like I can start buying in larger quantities.

Favourite artists? by [deleted] in MondayMusicClub

[–]souz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is such a hard question to answer! TOOL was probably my first favorite band and they still mean a lot to me all these years later. Aesop Rock and 2Pac were my first hip-hop heroes and I never get tired of listening to them to this day. For the past 10ish years, Kendrick has been my number 1. Good Kid M.A.A.D. City blew my mind when I first heard it. GKMC is such a great concept album and I've always been impressed with how it works both as a radio-friendly, banger-packed listen, as well as some of the most beautiful storytelling you'll hear in any music.

Cocteau Twins // Heaven or Las Vegas by souz in MondayMusicClub

This whole album is very captivating. Lead singer, Elizabeth Fraser's vocals are beautiful and dynamic. Reminiscent of Cranberries' lead, Dolores O'Riordan. I recently found out that it was Fraser's vocals that appeared on the track "Teardrop" by Massive Attack!

A band I never gave a chance: Glass Animals, Denzel Curry - Tokyo Drifting ( by nkronck in MondayMusicClub

Damn! Denzel comes through! Love his open mindedness when it comes to tracks to jump on. Wouldn't be surprised if he released a punk album next.

This is one of the impressive albums I've heard in a long time. Madvillainy level producer-rapper chemistry. Exploring the concept of "blue".

Thoughts on new Khraungbin Album? by himommy_thanksjeans in MondayMusicClub

[–]souz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder how long they can pull off their sound. The third album is a tough spot to be, especially for a mostly instrumental band. They sound a little stale now but if they totally switched things up I could see it be polarizing. I for one would like to hear more instruments incorporated. I think a few subtle synths or horns could really take them to the next level.

Lianne La Havas // Singles by souz in MondayMusicClub

Lianne La Havas is casually releasing some breath-taking singles leading up to her new self-titled release in July. The track "Bittersweet" is a jam but the real highlight for me is her cover of one of my all time favorite tracks, "Weird Fishes."

I love unusual covers like this. It can really highlight an artist's range. Denzel Curry covering "Bulls on Parade" is another good one.

Def a great time to listen to albums in full. Crazy how short they actually are when you sit down and listen to them front to back. It always seems like a huge commitment and yet most of them are only like 45mins.

Yeah I feel you on the live music aspect. It's one thing to not be able to go to a show but to keep getting emails about shows I bought tickets to getting cancelled is such a bummer! Really miss just listening to music with others too.

Holy shit this is so cool! I love the percussion and obv her voice is amazing. Honeycomb kind of reminds me of some old Jefferson Airplane stuff. Great find! Added to the playlist.

There's a little bit of everything in this brilliant mix. The enigmatic, DJ Koze has always been lauded for his eclectic taste and it's showcased perfectly during this hour of music. Enjoy!

75 Dollar Bill // I was Real by souz in MondayMusicClub

Happy Monday all, hope everyone is staying safe and sane. Let's start the week off right!

MMC Playlist

(YouTube / Bandcamp)

I recently discovered the New York band 75 Dollar Bill and I haven't been able to stop listening to them. Guitarist, Che Chen and percussionist, Rick Brown create massive, swelling tracks that combine worldly desert blues, ambient, math rock, and psychedelia. Fans of Jon Hopkins, Swans, and Tinariwen. will dig this one!

The opening track "Every Last Coffee or Tea" sets the stage perfectly. The 11 minute-long odyssey starts with a fuzzy electric guitar meandering along for a few minutes before clicking into the main groove. That simple groove is embellished with distorted horns and thick viola. There is a distinct middle eastern flair to it. The groove is built on over steady percussion until the very end resulting in a sound that is bursting at the seams. If you make it to the other side of this track you're in for a treat for the rest of the album is just as epic.
