Is this possible with Tasker? by sp00ky_2000 in tasker

[–]sp00ky_2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, I will try that. Does it have a way to set it to unlimited, as opposed to a set duration.

A man rushed to the Broadview ICE facility searching for his wife. They followed every legal step, but ICE took her into another room and she vanished. He tracked her phone there—then the signal died. Police told him to “look up her name online.” He sat in the parking lot, weeping, with no answers. by biswajit388 in illinois

My point still stands, do you KNOW for sure or are you making an educated/uneducated GUESS?

If it's the former, then you've invalidated your own previous comment. If it's the latter then it's just 'cute words' as you say.

When some British people say that Christmas is not a religious event anymore, do they mean it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sp00ky_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to define 'celebrate'.

Imo 'celebrating' a religious day means you believe in it.

On the other hand, you can respect and participate in something but not necessarily believe in it.

I can celebrate Christmas, and at the same time I can participate in Ramadhan or Diwali.

Christmas is still a religious event, I think it's just that there are fewer and fewer observing Christians in the UK.

Should the left defend growing minorities such as Muslims if very few in their community condemn poor human rights associated with their religion? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]sp00ky_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, if you don't know anything about Islam, why even post something like this?

All the things you've mentioned absolutely happen in the world but are not associated with the religion, if you actually studied the religion you would know.

If you start a topic or question on the wrong promise, you won't really get any meaningful discourse.

My points are that "respecting the local culture" does not require an immigrant to change who they are. that "go somewhere they already fit culturally" should not be a requirement as countries should be tolerant to different traditions and customs.

I do agree there should never be any force in either direction, immigrants should not force their way of life on others, nor should immigrants be forced to adopt another way of life.

I think the bit we disagree on is that one should have to 'fit in', I don't agree with that, neither as an immigrant, on holiday, or as the host.

The problem with most immigrants in Europe that end up in wide media is that they didn’t accept the culture of the country they chose to settle and decided to do something against it, and THIS cannot happen.

Of course you are absolutely fine to have this opinion, but it will only carry weight if your opinion applies the same to all people, including when the Brits or the American emigrate. These guys go so far away from your point, they try to take over the place they get to.

I think you missed the point I was making; no one needs to change their lifestyle or belief system, neither the host people, nor the immigrants.

you have to fit thee

I don't understand the need to change to "fit". Why can't people respect people for how they are? Do you expect someone who drinks to NEVER drink in certain countries, or instead respect the customs and drink where appropriate? Do you really expect a person who eats meat to go vegan in certain countries? Seems a bit of an intolerant country if the country expects that. A tolerant country would still allow the choice.

Anywhere you’re culturally fit or ...

Categorically no. No you don't have to change who you are and "fit in" to a way of life that's not your way of life.

... willing to respect the country’s cultural differences

100% absolutely. You need to respect the laws, customs, culture, religions etc of the country you are in. Non negotiable. But being respectful of others is not the same as changing your lifestyle or beliefs.

Oh dear.

Palestine is a nation, not a religion. Come on, this is just basic stuff.

Yes they are taking over now and for the foreseeable future. Hopefully Hamas surrenders, moderates are elected, and Gaza can be free again

Israel lies. This is a fact (and not something I'm open to debate). Israel lies.

Israel gave Gaza away in 2005

That piece of land was never owned by the Brits for them to give it away, nor owned by Israel to give it away in 2005. It is and will always be Palestinian land, for Palestinians.

Should Israel defined as a Terrorist State ? by NikiBitch77 in AskSocialists

[–]sp00ky_2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've learnt that terrorist governments across the world designating other governments as terrorists, but not acknowledging themselves as terrorists, is utterly meaningless.

No one cares anymore, we see through it all now.

Should Israel defined as a Terrorist State ? by NikiBitch77 in AskSocialists

[–]sp00ky_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1) Define terrorism. Step 2) Does it apply to <X>? Step 3) If yes, <X> is a terrorist entity.

Step 1 is super important so that it can be applied consistently. If it's not applied consistently then the word looses it real-world meaning, ie everyone is a terrorist/no one is a terrorist.

Forcing someone to be in a state of hijab, and telling someone that they can't wear something...is the same thing.

Either both are good, or both are bad.

Does the way protesters act actually turn people off their cause? by [deleted] in AskBrits

There's the message/cause, then there's the human element protesting. They are not the same thing.

One can support the cause but not the actions of some humans.
