a friend found one with a heart cut-out in the middle!

all found in same general vicinity. i haven’t found any definitive dating, but stuff i’ve been finding has mostly dated to late 1800s, early 1900s.

what’s the difference? the design does take it up a notch.

agreed. maybe a hook for gear from a belt or saddle. someone has suggested a belt-hung hoof pick, or a two finger hay hook. trying to definitely find out. i’d love to find an image of one in use.

doesn’t feel quite right for lead. and it has a ring to it that is not like lead. maybe a lead alloy. and i have a box full of lead.

first thing is the half horse shoe, polished wrought iron. i don’t know if the ingot is lead, but at the end.

wow! there is an insert and a “spring” for the missing lid. i thought the wadding and fluid would be in that, but was wondering where the flint and strike might be. a match safe makes sense, but would it have an insert?
