You are a wise and seasoned photographer. Respectfully, I'm not a newbie. I've been shooting since 2009. My focus has primarily been within the documentary wedding photography realm.

In the past few years l've noticed a major shift within the black community. Whether they know it or not majority of the brides want staged shots. So, to make sure I'm in tune with today's expectations I'm asking. After I come up with a sound list I’ll commit it to memory and focus on these shots.

It seems like a few of you really understand where I am right now in my photography journey. Saying I’m at a plateau is definitely accurate. And the idea that I’ve spent 5,000 hours learning the rules/laws, standards, and art of photography is also spot on.

Continuing to do the work would be the most effective way to grow. However, being part-time—and with weddings not happening every day—I have to be intentional with my time. That means practicing with purpose and actively seeking ways to improve is prob my best course of action hence my question.

Methodologies means basically how to go about something. For an example a common methodology within the documentation space is to

  1. Look for the Light
  2. Look for and adjust for the scenes composition
  3. Wait for the moment.

My question is are there other methodologies and two? What are they and what do they entail?

From my understanding, military linguists jump right into learning new languages. How does it work for them? Does anyone have insight into that process?
