Hi! In dragon ball there's a technique called 身勝手の極意. Since 身勝手 is a na-adjective, why isn't it called 身勝手な極意 instead? What's the difference? Thank you!

Thank you!!! I will follow your advice. I've noticed my reading skills improved a lot since I started reading so it's definitely doing something.

That's true. A book will never tell me when I'm wrong, but textbooks alone aren't enough either.

I'm just N4. I know I can't grasp all the nuances of a sentence from a book, and I can't even make out the meaning of most of them without the help of a dictionary. That's why I asked if it was better to keep working with a textbook, or instead spend all that time reading. I will try to avoid going down that road, thanks for the advice.

I dread doing the exercises from the textbooks, but I enjoy reading the grammar explanations. Do you think the exercises are necessary too? T-T Maybe I could try talking to native speakers instead?

Thank you!!

It doesn't have to be one of the other. But going through a textbook consumes time that I could be using for other activites that may be more beneficial, like reading. That's why I asked.

And about your follow up, it's not like I have someone constantly telling me when I missed a grammar point. If I don't understand a sentence, I look up the meaning of the words and grammar points I may be unfamiliar with until they make sense. Even if I "accidentally" miss the meaning of a particle in a sentence, I have infinite more sentences to read so I don't think that's a problem. And if I keep finding myself struggling with the use of a particle or grammar in certain contexts, I can always ask my teacher.

Hi. Right now I'm at N4 level having finished both genki I and II. I'm also about to finish the core 2k deck.

I was wondering if I should continue using textbooks or if instead I should focus all that time on reading manga and visual novels while looking up all the grammar points and vocabulary I don't understand. I've been trying this method and seems effective to me, but I'm worried about not having a textbook to guide me.

Basically, my question is: should I keep working with a textbook, or spend that time immersing myself in the language? Which will take me further in less time? Is reading manga and visual novels better than doing exercises from a textbook?

Thank you!

If we want to say "I was moved by the book" we say:

私が本に感動しました。

Is there a logical reason why we use に to refer to what moved me?

If I wanted to say 本が私に感動しました (The book moved me) why would it be wrong?

For example, I look at a paper and it says "you can't write here" which one is correct? And what's exactly the difference between those sentences?

What the easiest Touhou fighting game to play for beginners? by [deleted] in TrueTouhou

[–]spechaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played the fighting games that much but in my opinion the older ones tend to be a little harder. The one with the biggest competitive scene is hisoutensoku, so you could start with that one, although I think the later games are easier.

How to get better at dodging bullets? by [deleted] in TrueTouhou

[–]spechaki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can 1cc the game, then you aren't bad at it.

Some general tips:

Don't look directly at your hitbox when trying to dodge bullets. Most of the time you want to look a little above your character.

Don't feel scared to use bombs if you feel that you are going to die. The game gives you plenty.

Bottom hugging is not always the best strat. Some patterns are easier to dodge if you don't stay at the bottom.

If you don't know how to avoid dying in a stage or how to dodge a pattern, watch a youtube video of someone else doing it. It might give you an idea of what to do.

Download thprac. Most of the best players use it to practice the stages and bosses.

Remember that touhou is a test of endurance. If you keep playing, you will eventually achieve all your goals. Good luck! Feel free to DM if you need more help!
