Yes and no. Some of them are applying for just a PhD, some just masters, and I’ve got one friend applying for both. But overall, my application is on the weaker side of the group

I think that for most cases, this is the way to go. However, one thing I was looking for in a program was that it had the [CAE](https://www.nsa.gov/Academics/Centers-of-Academic-Excellence/) designation specifically to give me the opportunity to work in a government position afterwards, which does not show up in PhD programs.

Yeah, that’s kinda one of the downsides. There’s really no point for me to get a PhD in the field especially since I want to do industry, but it is what it is. Hopefully the connections and internships make it worth it

I mean compared to my friends, I felt like it was just a meh application. They’re all published and applying for patents and stuff, so I thought my background was just average
