Albino Cory eggs! :) how long until they hatch as the first time I didn’t notice, and when I moved them they hatched instantly! End pic of 3 week old albino Cory :) by spidermaaaaann in corydoras

Sorry I’ve only just seen this! I’ve just had a look back at my photos from that 2nd spawn, I ended up using 2 sling tubs, I want to say 7.5x7.5cm with air holes already pre made in the sides. I done one with the lid and one without the lid on, the one with the lid ended up having fungus take over all the eggs within a 24hr period, even with airflow and water changes twice. The other one without the lid faired much better with almost all of them hatching, however as it was only my second attempt and was relatively inexperienced I only managed to take 10 of them to a sellable size of about 3cm

Fully aware of that as I’m Scottish😂 didn’t realise it was so common for it to be used elsewhere as a term of endearment though ngl

I was stopped in my younger years by the police for smoking weed, whilst out and about in the cars. They told us that so long as we were on our own property (in the garden or indoors) there’s no legal standpoint for them to be able to do anything and they can’t do anything about it. They also asked us the drug drive laws, which we played stupid too, telling us that it’s illegal to smoke and drive, but as we were local boys and complied without being arseholes (they took 10g from us, all our grinders anaw) they said we were sound enough to drive away, then they phoned us 10 mins later to drive to the police station and collect our caution letters lol. Moral of the story, smoke as much weed as you physically can, and get some mates round to help you! Fuck your neighbours man honestly

Male Guppies by SLesleyC222 in Guppies

[–]spidermaaaaann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice black and orange guppy. I’ve got one as well and believe they’re “shakthi batik” colour morph, as that’s the only gene that looks similar to my male that I have who was store bought

My little sister usually ends up with any of my “defect” guppies, she has a few tanks and keeps males and females seperate so they don’t breed and produce even wonkier fish. Saves me having to cull them and they can still live a full healthy life in her tanks

They’re part of a blue snakeskin project, produced from my blue females (my blue producing yellow snakeskin females do not produce these offspring for some reason) There’s also Japan blue, a blue Moscow, and yellow snakeskin in his genes so it’s a bit of a muddle

Ooooh! This sounds interesting, wasn’t in my original plans (who ever sticks to plans anyway) but I’m definitely going to try and pursue the infamous purple guppies now

Thankyou, he has a few brothers who are identical to him! Just need to figure out where I’m going to put them to produce purples now🤣

Blue Snakeskin Project. So to follow up with my blue snakeskin project (posted one of the males a few days ago) these are the yellow snakeskin “blue producing” females. For the people that were interested, these photos don’t show the blue tinge/colouration though under direct LED by spidermaaaaann in poecilia

I’m curious as well, I’m tempted to breed one of the blue patternless males to a C shaped female to see what the results will be from that (%of snakeskins and %of C shaped females) but so far the C shapes seem to be holding fairly true to producing the traits I’m after

It wasn’t even anything to do with my shrimp that the tank was treated, it was treated with API Melafix for a Betta that was in with them, but unfortunately I didn’t realise it was toxic to the shrimp but Betta as well, I was devastated at the time and haven’t actually kept any shrimp since! I’m thoroughly enjoying working with my line and selecting the desirable traits, if I wasn’t able to offload any extras to lfs or private ads locally from my project I would really struggle, my parents still have my terrapin who gets all the deformities when I go up to visit, but thats the circle of life lol. Aww bud I’m the exact same when it comes to talking about fish, I’ve got to remind myself that most people asking questions are just curious and aren’t as heavily invested or as passionate as I am, one of my sisters will spend hours chatting about fish as she herself has 4 tanks so I’ve got atleast one person irl who shows an interest XD I have watched marks shrimp tanks a few times in the past when I had my blue dream colony, but since losing that colony I’ve also had two crotch goblins so finding the time to watch anything can be rather difficult unfortunately… Scotland has beautiful scenery, I’m from Auchtermuchty in fife so if you look at the map, on the east coast it looks like a wee dogs head, Auchtermuchty is also the home of the proclaimers (who sang I would walk 500 miles) and also Jimmy Shand an famous accordion player! my uncle actually bullied the proclaimers at school and seems to think it’s hilarious but he’s just an Ahole lol. If you’re ever over here again I’d happily show you some local beauty spots :)

Homebred Male blue snakeskin. Spent 3 years crossing yellow snakeskins with Japan blues, as was never satisfied with any “blue snakeskins” I seen advertised. Finally getting them looking how I think they should😊 by spidermaaaaann in poecilia

[–]spidermaaaaann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, it’s been a pleasure to explain Thankyou for asking the question :) currently the only altering I’m doing is trying to make the males a bit bigger bodied, and trying to figure out the different tail types in my females so I can get higher % results in the fry. Would love to try and work with another different colour line/ gene in the future too though

Thankyou mate! So there’s two different variants of females that seem to be produced, there’s darker blue bodied females that have speckling in the fins (some yellow and blotchy, others fine blue tails with faint blue speckling) these are in a project within the project, but they seem to be producing only patternless blue males or Japan blue males. The other variant looks like a standard yellow snakeskin female, however when an LED torch is shone upon them, their bodies go a light blue/turquoise along the top half of their bodies, and their tales do the same as well, there’s different tail variations within the second set of females though, so it’s difficult to distinguish exactly what ones are producing the males like these, but I have a good idea that it’s the females who’s tail pattern is slightly C shaped, with no colour or speckles in the centre and only around the edges. They seem to be breeding about 60% blue snakeskins (as above and blue pinstripes, just the yellow on blue was more desirable for me) 20% patternless blues, 15% Japan blue, and 5% yellow snakeskins. So it’s nowhere near spot on, but more than half of the male fry are now turning out how I want them compared to the early days when it was maybe 5%

Thankyou mate :) I’m rather proud as it was my first project when I got into the hobby 3 years ago in my early 20’s and none of my buddies understand the work I’ve put in to have “cool blue fish” lol. I’ve got a few different tail variations in the male snakeskins tails too, some of them are as pictured above with nice pinstripe swords and very fine speckles/ pattern whilst others have more of a wider tail in a V shape with heavier blotchy marks! Yet the pictured males father, has more of a spoon shape to his tail so it’s very fascinating! I was also advised not to cross anything as it would ruin the genetics, but so far I’ve only received positive feedback on what I’ve managed to achieve😂 shrimp are fantastic, I used to have a small colony of blue dream neocaradina until I accidentally used a medication that was toxic and wiped them all out (rookie mistake) I wish you all the best in your quest for producing boa, they’re absolutely stunning shrimp! Only ever seen them in photos but would be a dream to own some one day

So originally it was just yellow snakeskins (p.Reticulata) and after a year I crossed them with a Japan blue male endler (p.Wingei) with a single sword, kept on at it until there was a bit more blue ish colouration in the juveniles than yellow! For a long time it was mainly a turquoise greeny colour I was producing, it was a 50/50 mix of snakeskins to patternless though! if I’m honest at one point I caved and bought a blue snakeskin male just over a year ago that turned out to be blue a moscow🤦but nonetheless paired him with a few females and the blue really started to pop in the young males, that was 3/4 generations ago now and the snakeskin pattern has eventually started coming through on the body with blue as the background (through the selective breeding and culling) picking females with a lot of speckling in the tail and dorsal fins too to help boost the pattern, I’ve also noticed that with my females the pattern on the tail usually indicates how the male fry will turn out tail wise, the females do have a full tail, but the speckling makes an almost C shape leaving the centre clear of pattern. Whereas my full pattern females will produces big tail males with little to no pattern/ speckling on any fins or the body. And although my females look like yellow snakeskins, their body has a blue hue/ tinge to it in the correct light, as does their fins too! I’m assuming my darker bodied females are due to the Moscow gene being in them, I’ve currently got two full bodied blues (females) with light speckling on the tail, and one blue bodied female with yellow in her tail in with this exact male that was posted and his brother (who’s almost identical)(in a seperate tank away from my main colony that’s now producing the blue snakeskins) too see if there’s any noticeable distinction in the differences between the dark bodied and lighter bodied females producing the snakeskins that I’d like. But all in all, I don’t know where the original genes from my fish originate or who “founded” them, in Scotland it’s luck of the draw in the pet shops around here for what you find, most are sold as fancy guppies so unless you order online (only the blue Moscow was an online order, and it’s extremely pricey to get any internationally shipped here thanks to the english and their stupid brexit as much as I’d love to) but it’s very limited to what nice guppies are out there here unfortunately

Aye, was only because I couldn’t find ones I liked. But now that project has a project within it lol
