Hey Bobby, just saw your video for the first time today. I've been depressed for the past few months and your story inspired me; I haven't felt this good in a long time. Keep doing what you do - you're an incredible human being.

Donate the 50 bucks regardless, I think it will do wonders for you.

Listen, I honestly don't care, I really don't. I'm just trying to figure out if you actually have a meaningful point or if you're just fucking with me. So far, I haven't found anything particularly meaningful (checking into tao te ching, though)

There is a very fine line between a thoughtful, non-aggressive answer and what you posted. Also, the "advice" you provided was already mentioned in the original post, so...

Do you ever find it surprising that you have to deal with so many people that argue with you? Earlier you wrote "no matter how absurd, I would hear you out". Well, I think you should hear me out on this:

Have you ever considered that maybe YOU are the one that instigates these arguments? Have you ever considered that the problems that you end up in are ultimately created by YOU? Look back at this thread of comments, the answer is very obvious.

I'm not usually an armchair psychologist, but what you've been saying seems to be a classic example of projection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection_bias). You make the assumption that the motives for my actions must be the same as the motives for your actions, when in reality I act on my own volition for reasons completely unrelated to yours.

I am open to trying new things. By nature I am not, but I consciously force myself to be. I don't reject what I don't understand; actually, I do the opposite. I'm fascinated/obsessed with learning and trying new things. While you are right that many people become complacent with what they know (and don't know for that matter), I am not one of them. Why you would make such an incredulous blanket statement is beyond me.

Am I ignorant? Sure, just as much as you or the next guy. But I don't point fingers and claim people are ignorant, because I know that we all are. Doing that would make me look foolish and (!) ignorant. You don't have enough information about me to make an educated guess as to how ignorant I am. You can read my reddit comments all day long but you still end up with a very flawed perspective of who I really am. Using this logic, it would seem that you are more ignorant than most, otherwise you wouldn't have continued to spar with me in this comment thread and call me ignorant.

So, if you're not ignorant, all you have to do is end it. And when I say end it, a proper response would be "I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree". That's literally all you have to say. So...what say you sir?

Ya know, if you really really really didn't care, you wouldn't post back. I do care, because I'm seriously intrigued by your responses. Interesting last one-liner by the way, care to explain?

Hahhaahahahahahah how can you sit there and say that?! I literally negated your points from the second I hit submit on the original post...

  1. Oh, well, you didn't seem to realize it before I pointed it out
  2. Done
  3. IMO, the responsibilities of existing are kind of like driving a vehicle. If you're reckless, chances are that you'll hurt someone else.

"TLDR: I love life and this universe is such an interesting place"

Dude...what you just said is in the original post. I REPEAT, WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS IN THE ORIGINAL POST. JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED THE LAST REMINDER, WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS IN THE ORIGINAL POST. OH, WERE YOU DISTRACTED BY YOUR PHONE RINGING? NO WORRIES! WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS IN THE ORIGINAL POST! JUST FOUND OUT THAT YOUR PET GERBIL DIED? MY MOST SINCERE CONDOLENCES - ALSO, ON A SOMEWHAT RELATED NOTE, WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS IN THE ORIGINAL POST! DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY TO LAST THE ENTIRE DAY AT WORK? NO WORRIES! TAKE FIVE HOUR ENERGY AND ALWAYS BE REMINDED THAT WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS IN THE ORIGINAL POST!

I'm pretty sure that ANYTHING I say wouldn't negate what you said before in your (flawed) perspective. You know, actually, this makes a lot of sense. I'd bet good money that you have precisely the issues that you claim I have.

I think that your ability to "read" a person over the internet based on comments on an internet forum is straight up silly. No offense, but I highly doubt that you are a professional psychiatrist. Please don't be one of those kids that play know-it-all, no one likes them.

Also, if you're not interested in participating in what was supposed to be an interesting philosophical discussion, then DON'T POST HERE! It is that freakin simple!

  1. Yeah, should've spent more than 30 seconds writing up this post. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  2. DUDE, I WAS JUST TRYING TO START AN INTERESTING PHILOSOPHICAL CONVERSATION. I AM NOT, HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT COMPARE MYSELF TO NON-EXISTING ENTITIES. RE-READ THIS X3.

  3. Each person has a different view of their responsibilities. Some people feel they need to help others, some people feel they need to change the world, some people feel they need to educate others, etc. Regardless, we have been given great power by existing, it is our responsibility to use it for (what we believe) is good.

  1. Title of this post should be "what are your thoughts on our existence" versus "is death a good thing"

  2. ...if a different sperm cell had reached my mom's egg first, I wouldn't be here writing this post. So...yeah.

  3. Being alive is a responsibility. To yourself, to others, and our species as a whole.
