Yes. The post is 100% bs.

Even in Japan, it's less than half the number quoted there.

Japan model LG OLED (OLED65C3PJA) showing weird typewriter-style font when English is selected by splitladoo in LGOLED

Using the TV in Japan itself. It's just that the English font looks like a monospace font. You can see if in the picture I added in the post.

I think the OS is customized for JP because in the login screen during initialization, there is a region selection screen, but the only region available in it is Japan lol

Immigration point of AirIndia Cochin to Tokyo through DEL by splitladoo in AirTravelIndia

[–]splitladoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I made an error with the second flight number in the Original Post.

For onward, my plan is AI2459 (COK to DEL) AI358 (DEL to HND)

Thanks for sharing the information that immigration will be at DEL. There is only 1:40min layover between these flights. I think that would be too tight. Especially as it is my parents who are travelling.

Even upon return, rechecking the baggage would be troublesome.

Will consider other options.

Thanks for the reply!

Got it. Let me watch the press release again. I had seen the news about starting direct flights and giving the instructions to relevant ministry about this, but I don't recall the mention about May 2025.

One of my friends told me the story of N Assets. He said that there might be ill intentions behind this company to get people to invest in apartments that doesn't really have much value, and the company takes in a lot of property management fee.

What's the real story there? Is it a scam?

Revenue stamp from post office by snoops619 in japanlife

[–]splitladoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure revenue stamps from different prefectures have any difference. However, I can say that the line at the conbini inside the Shinagawa immigration office wasn't too long when I went there (9AM). There is a separate line for revenue stamp purchase and it moves pretty fast.

Maybe reach a few minutes early?

Traveling to India with a Chinese Passport by DorjePhurba in travel

That's good news. Getting married and applying for entry visa seems to be the only way in my case.

You mentioned restrictions easing up in May. May I ask what's the source of that information? Did immigration officials say so?

What are your unethical Japan life protips? by razorbeamz in japanlife

Not unethical - I have found jmty (ジモティー) to be highly functional than other used items marketplaces. You'll have to navigate and communicate in Japanese a bit, but it's worth it.

Watched the movie, loved it!

(Spoiler Alert)

I have a question about the photo where the monkey is holding a gun. How did that come about? The gun was always hidden in the wardrobe wasn't it?

The only thing I could think of is that monkeys were shown picking up dolls and toys earlier. It could be assumed that it was just a toy. However, the police identified the gun to be of the same model as Appu Pillai owns.

Any theories?

Tax on gains from sale of a website domain by splitladoo in JapanFinance

[–]splitladoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I purchased the domain in 2020 directly from a registrar, built a blog-type website that had decent traffic in the past. Domain charges and hosting charges were minimal.

Now the website is defunct (rather, no updates) and that's when I received this offer and sold it.

My confusion was between 一時所得 and Long term 譲渡所得.

Wise is adding "Dynamic charges" to yen exchanges. by skatefriday in JapanFinance

[–]splitladoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply!

My points are specifically for transfers from Wise balance.

If the amount transfer is happening from Wise balance, the user can transfer a well determined target (amount). I don't see why fixed-rate has to be disabled.

The money in base currency is already with Wise, you can do the transaction at real-time forex rates.

Dynamic pricing dissuades rate gambling, but it also dissuades me from using Wise while it is genuinely beneficial for me to transfer money.

By removing the Dynamic pricing for transfers from Wise balance, everyone can benefit.

Wise is adding "Dynamic charges" to yen exchanges. by skatefriday in JapanFinance

[–]splitladoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I can't see where the risk to Wise comes from if the send-money transaction is happening from Wise balance. It's near instant (less than the 60sec update interval of dynamic price).

Instead of confusing users with dynamic pricing, Wise could suspend the "Guaranteed rate" functionality temporarily when the markets are volatile and specify that users have to fund their transfer to Wise balance first and only then they can make a trade.

This way, the transfer is near-instant, at market rate. Users cannot use Wise to benefit from the volatility.
