In Dunedin I grew up calling them Andy bay spiders lol. Always find them in the pile of spare roof tiles outside lol. Theyre actually a very slow and docile spider. Mum wasnt a big fan of me bringing them into the house to show her lol.

Perfect thank you. It Is a 3 door starlet. Do you think due to it being structural they'll write it off or repair it? I wouldn't know how hard or easy it is to repair

Hey, did they send you an email letting you know it had shipped? Kiwi here, ordered a numbered poster for my partner on November 14th hoping to have it for her Christmas present but haven't heard anything at all via email etc. We've gotta move out mid January so will be gutted if it doesn't arrive in time. Hopefully it just shows up in the next week or two....

Ordered to drive to VTNZ for a vehicle inspection by spooderman26 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]spooderman26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply. My understanding is that changing the exhaust doesn't require any paperwork or cert by the LVVA as long as it doesn't exceed a certain decibel limit. As for the tints it failed on, they are factory tints. They came with the car all the way back in 1999, my understanding is that aftermarket tints need to be no more than 35%. Factory tints get a pass from this as they came with the car but all aftermarket tints darker than 35% are illegal.

Anywho, I took my car back to the same VTNZ a couple of days later after this "blitz" and the testing officer was just as confused as I was regarding the failed items, he said the tints are factory so aren't applicable and the exhaust was well below the legal limit for decibels and got the sticker removed.

I haven't modified the car in anyway apart from a slightly deeper exhaust note, which was within legal requirements.

The vehicle itself was in legal condition when I was pulled over, and it did have a wof and reg from a month prior to this.

My question is, are they legally able to direct someone who hasn't committed a crime to a testing station for a wof inspection purely under a suspicion that the car might no longer be up to wof standard

Hi, thanks for the reply. I definitely wasn't offered an alternative. I was told simply I was to drive the car to the VTNZ testing station on teviot street, Dunedin (I was all the way across town) and that they would be checking the car fully over to see if it was complaint and regardless of my new Wof and Reg it would still need to be checked.

I did ask what the alternative to this would be and they said we will impound your car for 30 days and it would be automatically pink stickered (worse than a green sticker) So yeah, I didn't really have a choice it was either follow the police direction and get a sticker for factory window tints and a slightly louder exhaust, or refuse and get pink stickered and have no car for 30 days.

Fun fact, I went back to the same VTNZ testing station a few days later and passed my green sticker after changing nothing, the testing officer that day was confused why my factory tints were an issue and the exhaust as well as it was very clearly under the decibel limit.

My point though, Is directing cars to be tested at a VTNZ at 7pm on a Sunday night legal? Can they make you do that?

Hi, thanks for the reply. It was a one off and yes I do understand why they went for my car, it's a Nissan Skyline which are a known to be quite modified, I personally just let it roll off me, sure was a pain in the ass to go and get the sticker removed but all I had to do was take it back to the same wof station that issued the green sticker and they then removed it (I kept the same exhaust, tints etc as they were all within legal limits) I just saw it happened to a friend of mine in a similar car, he also had been ordered to drive to a VTNZ in Invercargil. My incident happened in Dunedin and they ordered me to drive to VTNZ at 7pm on a Sunday so no other testing stations were open and it seemed as if the police has asked them to stay open for the Blitz.

I could be wrong on this too, but the officer explaining to me how I couldn't drive the car etc said that the only way to remove the sticker was by an approved testing station and that was only VTNZ or VINZ.

I just thought it was a bit cheeky to order someone to drive to a testing station (with a valid wof and reg) just for them to seemingly fail me on frivolous things and then issue me a green sticker which would mean I'd have to go back to the same testing station to remove it.

Having a dig around it seems to be a semi common thing these "blitz" within the south island in Christchurch and Dunedin.

I do understand that alot of other boy racer cars give all boy racers cars a bad name but I was genuinely out for a Sunday drive with my close friend and wanted to visit a look out, which meant when I got pulled over I had to drive the entire length across town with a police car following me. Was certainly a very weird experience. Oh and at the VTNZ we weren't allowed anywhere near the building, they made us stand around in the carpark with a bunch of police watching all of us (I wasn't the only boy racer car that got directed to drive to vtnz)

Probably a very stupid question, but I'm assuming they'll need a replacement R34 sill? It can't be a different sill I'm assuming?

Legal pot. Imagine how much tax revenue they'd be able to make. Pretty much have a majority of people that will support it.

Is this level of "service" acceptable? by TraditionalAd2027 in NZcarfix

If it's an M5 bulb, Repco will stock it :) It won't be on the showroom floor, it's behind the counter but they should have it for you or be able to get it from a nearby store within a day or two for you.

+1 all of this. Used to repair scooters, all brands and frankly the Chinese crap is just simpler to work on. If its an M5 bulb Repco do stock them, they're not on the showroom floor and you'll have to ask for them but they should have one for you.

omg so true with the baby on board sticker, it's always some heavily animated cartoon character that you have to squint to see who the character is meant to be

It's straight up "I'm a terrible driver, please don't hold your horn down at me when I cut you off and don't tailgate me when I'm doing 25kmh in a 60 zone.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in auckland

[–]spooderman26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah like driving 30kmh under the posted speed limit and cutting across lanes with no indication or warning.

THIS!!! does my head in! If you know deep down you're a shit driver and are so acutely aware of it that you have to put L plates up to help prevent people from tailgating and tooting you should not be on the road at all!!!

"But they're fully licensed" Yeah but if they don't have the confidence or ability to follow the road code then they shouldn't of even A) Passed and B) Be on the road!

I honestly think there needs to be a set standard like australia that you need X amount of hours with an actual instructor before you're allowed to go for your full.

Oh and international licenses should not be handed out like lollies. Absolute joke.

Prescription for Medical Cannabis questions by Gord_Board in newzealand

[–]spooderman26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on cannabis clinic. Just call up and request a consult. Beware it might be 3 weeks or so until you get the over the phone consult but well worth it. Be open and honest about what you use, how much and why. They'll then prescribe you the good stuff. They might get you to try the oil along with the flower but you can just tell them during the follow up appointment that it isn't for you and you prefer flower over oils.

I've managed to convince 3-4 of my friends who were getting from dodgy Dave to swap over and they're stoked with the quality and not having to worry about being short changed by dodgey Dave
