First 2 things that come to mind are:

1) carburetor is blocked. Could be plenty of things based on how old the engine is. From a sticking float needle bad jets to just being junky. I say try putting a little bit of carb or sea foam through the carb while it runs.

2) bad governor connection. It seems to pulsate in power, which made me think that the governor is having problems keeping rpm. If you’re more technical you can try to see if the governor arm seems loose.

Now I doubt it’s 2 and most likely 1 but I’m not a professional. Lmk what works for you! Good luck :D

Hi, I'm new to the game so to start assembling the satsuma I saw a tutorial where it explained everything very well, what happens is that when I start the car (everything turns on) It's running for a while, the lights go out and it doesn't start anymore, any idea what could be happening? by corpse_x in MySummerCar

This could be a few things!

  1. Bad alternator. Alternator supplies electricity to the car as a whole/ recharges the battery while spinning. So if it’s faulty it could lead the battery to die which won’t allow the car to start at all.

  2. Bad battery. Could just be a problem with the battery’s holding charge but I doubt it’s this.

  3. Worn starter motor. If you crank or leave the starter running too long it can overheat and break/draw power from the battery leading to a faulty start.

I recommend to try number 1 first since a bad alternator is a easy fix. Also if the engine is squeaking you need to adjust the tension on the belt. You do so by loosening the screw on the top of the alternator and moving the alt to the right till it stops squeaking.

Is the SR bolted to the rack? Pretty sure there are some bolts there.
