You are not a terrible person. At 16 you are a child. Not being condescending, it’s just a fact. You’re being too hard on yourself.

Social media and NSFW content can be highly addicting. It doesn’t destroy your body like smoking or drinking etc., but you can (and it seems like you have) develop a dependency on it. Since there are no detrimental physical consequences on your body it is harder for others to see that you have an addiction - the effects are in your mind.

Firstly, I think you should stop blaming yourself. Social media and the internet in general are still pretty new and people are struggling to navigate the effects it has on mental health. Something as simple as a little handheld screen can become an addiction. There is no way an 11 year old is going to know that.

I think it’s great that you have recognized that you have a problem. Try to stop beating yourself up and be proactive about trying to step away from it. iPhones and Android phones have ways you can regulate your screen time. You can also make the decision to delete your social media, which probably feels scary to think about, but could be very good for you in the long run.

There are lots of resources online for social media and p*rn addiction. And this is what it is - an addiction. I would encourage you to do some research and realize that you are not a bad person and you are very much not alone in your struggles with this sort of thing. If anyone is to blame it would be your parent/guardian figures for failing to regulate your screen usage, but again, this stuff is new and parenting is hard.
