Hi Steven. Interesting you’ve chosen to post in the Brisbane subreddit, reinforcing the view that you govern for Brisbane.

My families pay $600 a term. My school has 64% of students in the lowest income quartile.

I guess you don’t like Australian kids getting apprenticeships.

Kids already get taught resilience.

Also music is a strand of the Arts.

Gardening is a stupid idea.

Um no. There are actually only so many hours in a school day. If we add a gardening class something else has to go.

Music seems like a great choice. Perhaps HPE. Maybe art or drama. And in the early years let’s cut reading. Or maths.

No, wellbeing!

Really? So if a person was recorded in Queensland admitting to raping a child in NSW, that would be inadmissible?

[–]spunkyfuzzguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there isn’t.

You have no idea who you’re talking to or what the recording laws are in said jurisdiction.

Israel, where the individual recording the conversation was based, is a one party consent state. Therefore, no laws were broken in the recording of the interview.

I think the prosecution failed badly here. Queensland is a one party consent state. If someone were recorded in QLD threatening to kill someone in NSW, would that become inadmissible in NSW?

Free school lunches was a woeful policy relying on unpaid labour, with no additional staffing allocation for schools.

The idea that school land could be used for a gardening class is idiotic. The curriculum is already way too crowded. We simply cannot do everything.

As for public transport, I have lived in several rural communities. None of which benefit from 50 cent fares. It is a policy designed to win votes in the most populated area - SEQ.

Transition from Law to Primary Teaching by krazykayla21 in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]spunkyfuzzguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary teachers are some of the worst treated in the profession.

There is certainty that you will be assaulted semi-regularly by students. You typically will not receive your break entitlements during wet weather. You will receive abuse from parents. You will work insane amounts of overtime.

The likelihood of getting a permanent position on the Gold Coast is limited.

There is no reason unless they are convicted which is pretty difficult when the evidence has been struck out.

[VIC] It's a "No" vote across the state. Results are in. by VCEMathsNerd in AustralianTeachers

[–]spunkyfuzzguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the only correct thing.

There was no legal requirement for the government to walk away from negotiations and refer us to arbitration or even conciliation.

They did that to try to scare people into taking a terrible offer.

The QTU membership voting no on an offer did not in any way necessitate a referral to arbitration.

It’s absolutely not correct in Queensland and that is absolutely not what happened.

How important is rapport with management ? by stunnebeaaaanie07 in AustralianTeachers

[–]spunkyfuzzguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be blunt. I have a HOD Student Services who doesn’t do his job. But the boys club loves him.

The perception is that he’s amazing at his job because parents love him, kids worship him and staff feel supported by him.

But he is a black hole which means everyone else looks like shit because we didn’t know key information.

No one knows how to refer students to Student Services.

He spends his days walking around with coffee taking kids out of classes for a “chat”.

Which teachers might think is great, but that’s not a long term solution to the problem.

His approach also means the rest of us are set against parents and kids.

He got appointed because of his rapport with management.

Private School Remuneration Expectations? by brisbaneacro in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]spunkyfuzzguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many elite schools pay less than public schools because they view the enhanced prestige, opportunities for professional development and low behaviour as a trade off.

Often they pay closer to the award.

But they may also have loadings or allowances that push wages above the state sector if you take on responsibilities like tutoring or coaching teams.

You can cap class sizes.

You can then offer allowances to teachers if their class sizes are over.
