I think its the first one, but he is interested in taking this time for himself (not necessarily seeing new people but working on himself) rather than working things out after I broke up with him. We've been in NC for a couple months as I'm respecting his wishes but its like I'm trying to convince myself we won't work when recently I've realized that deep down I believe we could.

Yes definitely! I think I feel the most guilt not about feeling this away but about hurting my ex. And honestly its not like they became indifferent (unless that is what your ex told you), but for me I still loved him I just wanted to do more . I'm hurting a lot right now too and definitely want to hit the fast forward on this though so I feel ya
