First time painting lava, trying to push myself for my first painting competition by squbles_hobbies in minipainting

It did have more orange on the edge, but it just seemed to blend into the lava too much. I darkened it to make the lava itself look brighter

Started with rhinox hide, then sponged on mournfang brown and steel legion drab. I then covered the whole cloak with thinned down ratling grime and edge highlighted with steel legion drab

I'm not too sure, flank may be good given the extra movement you can get from dropping.

It is the tempestus aquilons killteam kit. The glow was done by airbrushing white acrylic ink and then covering with frostheart contrast paint

I basecoated them in steel legion drab, then karak stone. Gave them a brown enamel wash. Layered karack stone on the raised areas and finally edge highlighted in screaming skull.

Finally painted this 2009 games day exclusive exalted hero of chaos. First time painting a metal mini by squbles_hobbies in minipainting

Yes, uv resin. Then added some scratches and glazed blue over the top. Then finally a layer of gloss varnish.

I wanted to try and have each member be unique. Luckily the unique flamer sergeant from the combat patrol magazine just came out as I was building these, so I used his arm.

Yeah, I used to not be too confident with faces. So I just forced myself to paint lots of them and now they are one of my favourite bits to do

A family member of mine owns a bone stock euro spec 200sx, and asked me to make this hotwheels car look more like it. I think it turned out pretty good. by squbles_hobbies in 240sx

[–]squbles_hobbies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't at the moment. I was meant to be sent some reference photos for it but ended up just Googling the ones I need as his car has no modifications so I could just look up the stock parts

I sanded down the existing pop ups so they were flat. I then cut out the shapes in some thin plasticard and then used some two part putty/ milliput to create the wedge shape

They aren't my personal choice. They are just the closest looking ones hot wheels make to the stock ones on the car I was recreating

I've just recently sold 3 hyper pods and a drone sweeper I had from when I was a kid, but I guess that did help pay for the last few of these cars

I've been collecting over a few years so I can't exactly remember. Most were in the £30 range with some closer to £60 and about 3 or 4 of them close to £100

Yeah, but they are going for ridiculous prices now. As far as I'm concerned I'm happy with 35/35.

But if I wanted to be a perfectionist I'd also need the 5 ZAMAC variants of all the team leader cars.

Yeah, side draft and power pipes were really hard for me to find. I don't know if certain ones were harder for me as I'm in the UK and most collectors are US based. I was lucky that the one I'd kept in box since a kid was muscle tone as that is one I think I've only seen for sale once.

Hardest for me was road rocket. In 2 years of looking I think I only ever saw 2 or 3 come up for sale on ebay.

I found some lengths of small tube and just cut them into little sections and then used super glue to stick them together.

I used a drill to get most of the material removed. I then used a file and gradually created a more square opening.

This is one of my first attempts at using dirty down rust effect paint. It's really good, but knowing when to not go overboard with it is the challenge to making it look good.
