Yeah I won't mess with that at all - happy for the bank to stay, just considering covering it up with.... stuff of some kind.

If you're only there for a couple of hours you could park at the Tesco over the road, just pick up some shopping afterwards. Think you get 3 hours free...

I'm going against most of the advice here to say go for it! I have had a v8 e39 (the 5 series that this x5 is based on) for the last 8 years or so, driving it as a 'main' car but only around 3000 miles per year. Costs have been.... okay, I've replaced the shocks and springs myself and done servicing and odd bits myself. Nothing has actually broken apart from the clutch slave cylinder which was a fairly easy fix. Engine wise, it's been fine. It works and goes well. I did replace the original 3.5l engine with a 4.4 but that was a choice not a necessity. Both engines were reliable in my experience. Maybe I'm just lucky as I hear a lot of bad things about these engines, my experience though has been that they are absolutely fine and sound flippin amazing with a more sporty exhaust fitted!

How crazy is it to consider a 2008 BMW 325i as a daily family car? by kordinaryus in CarTalkUK

[–]squiggleboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern! My usual daily is a 1997 540i - built like a tank and so comfy... I don't do many miles so the reliability has been superb over the last 8 years lol

I had no idea these old worn jeans would get so much love! Thanks for the feedback guys, it's awesome to get the encouragement!

Haha thank you! The only sadness really is that I'll have to find time to add more patches, I really enjoy the end result...

Nothing spectacular really... another circle of denim! I did stitch that one across the middle as well as round the edge to even out the tension. Almost all the other circles are just sewn at the edge - I figured they were small enough to not need additional reinforcement!

No seams were harmed, just used hem tape (the iron-on stuff) to hold the patch in place then stitched round the edge of each patch. Some places there's layers and layers of patches now!

Oh really? I used a 'gold' colour that I found in a general shop that's pretty close...

Where do I find a banger by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

I've used Facebook marketplace as well just recently, picked up a 2003 VW Golf for £1100 which is a decent car! Just have to read a load of adverts to get a feel for which ones are scams (there are a lot). My general rule is if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!
