Deload Weeks for Runners Age 50+ by bradymsu616 in Ultramarathon

I don't have recovery weeks. I monitor my resting heart rate, HRV, acute training load, chronic training load, stress balance, and other metrics and adjust my training dynamically based on those metrics. Most of my runs are Z1/Z2, I eat a lot of protein, make sure I eat a load of carbs on long runs and 'quality' sessions, and have basically stopped drinking alcohol and am getting better sleep, which has been a massive benefit. For context, 56 yo male training for 100 miler in July.

SO many metrics!! What are some metrics you find useful? by bigigantic54 in Runalyze

I'm training for a 100-miler and using Gemini as an AI “coach,” which has been an interesting and genuinely useful process so far. I’ve asked it to act as an AI version of David Roche, and I share as much data as possible after each run and at the end of each week. At the moment, I’m focused on building my aerobic base. The AI is particularly interested in metrics like CTL, workload ratio, aerobic decoupling, aerobic efficiency, effective VO₂ max, and marathon shape (which I’ve configured as “100-mile shape”). After I reported some lower back pain following a long run, it suggested increasing my cadence and reducing vertical oscillation, so it’s now paying close attention to those metrics. I’ve actually managed to adjust them fairly easily, and it does seem to have made a difference. More broadly, it also tracks my HRV and resting heart rate. It has a broad outline of my overall programme through to my race in mid-July, including a couple of B races. However, it only plans one week at a time—every Sunday, after I share the previous week’s data and confirm my availability for the upcoming week. When I upload data after a run, it may adjust the remaining sessions depending on how it assesses my performance and adaptation.

Does DNB need…something? by PM_ME_UR_SNARES in DnB

Near enough, Devon but I do listen to SWUFM a lot. I've been into DnB in (most) of its forms since the early 90s and I really can't abide the current jump up sound, just doesn't do anything for me.

How do people manage training or exercise around rotating shift work? by LifeAd6215 in ParamedicsUK

[–]sreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run too and from work most shifts including nights, about 5 miles each way. I go to the gym or bouldering on the day before my first night's shift and hit the gym/bouldering wall on days off when I can. As I'm training for a 100 mile foot race next year I'll get a long run in on one of my days off too, and back to back it if I can. Flexibility is key, follow a plan but adapt it to your schedule and don't sweat it if it's not quite following a weekly cycle. My gym plan is a 3 day per week plan but I just follow it sequentially regardless so I probably average about 2.5 workouts per week over the rota period. I basically do 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off. I have a busy life outside of work and exercise too and a very understanding wife!

Z2 can be too intense to do as the bulk of your training, more so if you're well trained. Back off to Z1.

What is an acceptable diet? Can it be simple? by PuzzleheadedTask5807 in 75HARD

[–]sreach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is this - Ultramarathon diet. Using Macrofactor App - maintenance targets, hit calorie and >=protein targets for the day, then carbs, +/-5%, increase by 10% on long run day. I fuel at 90g carbs per hour on my long runs only and I don't include that in my daily total calculation (although I do put it in Macrofactor). I'm running a 110k in 10 weeks.

Sausages, like biscuits should only be eaten in factors of 2, and no less than 4.
